I might have screwed up!

I placed an order to get in on a group buy on another forum for this rifle.

Specs are:

- Montana Rifle Company Extreme X2 (stainless/synthetic)
- 243 Winchester
- 22" barrel, #2 MRC Contour
- 1 in 8" twist (stamped on barrel)
- MRC X2 standard gray stock
- 20 right hand rifles, 5 left hand rifles
- $1075.99 (plus shipping to your FFL)

I'd been putting together parts to build a light weight 8 twist .243 on a CM M700 short action. I have the donor and the B&C Mountain Rifle ADL stock and was looking hard at different barrel makers for the right contour. I think I just saved a lot of money, but really not ready for this rifle in the next couple of months. Guess I might have to open the safe and sell off a couple queens to pay for my new rifle.

There are far worse ways to screw up. I've never held one in my hands, but hear very good things about them. Being based on the Winchester 70 ain't a bad thing and that price is just about what a 70 EW or Kimber 84 would sell for. Seems like a lot more gun for the same money and I have a Kimber and an EW that I like.

I have a few safe queens, think of them as money in the bank in cases like this. I think you'll like it.

Taylorce1, can you explain to me the beauty/mechanics of this ?:
- 20 right hand rifles, 5 left hand rifles

I've never seen that before.

It's a group buy of 25 rifles through a gun shop in KY, they ordered 5 in left hand which will keep a few shooters happy . These are basically custom shop rifles from Montana Rifle Company as they have an 8 twist barrel which isnt the standard twist for these rifles. Here is the standard rifle:

CALIBER-243 Win
ACTION-BSRS/BSLS
BARREL LENGTH-22
TWIST RATE-9
OVERALL LENGTH-42.5
WEIGHT-6lbs 14 oz
RIGHT/LEFT

I'm getting it for about $100 less than you can pick them up for off of gunbroker, as I've never seen one for sale at a retail store. The only thing that this 8 twist allows me to do is run the 105 grain VLD bullets that a 9 twist won't always stabilize when you get closer to sea level. The Montana X2 has a larger magazine box of 3.10" vs. 2.85" of the M700 which will give me more seating depth options as long as the barrel is throated for it.

Here is what the .260 Rem that the first group buy got looks like.

We have some fine gun stores here in Kentucky. Buds and KY Gun Co. two of my local gun shops. I live near Buds in Lexington and my parents still live in Bardstown where KY Gun Co. is located. I have yet to stop by Whittaker's as I almost never go to Owensboro, but I hear some really good things about the shop.

Also, those look like some mighty fine rifles.

open up that safe & pull something out... your stuff has always been top notch... you'll for sure get your choice sold before you even miss it ;)

nice looking rifle... my 1st rifle was a Ruger 77 stainless synthetic in 243... I still have & love that rifle... .243 is a great cartridge, & the 1 in 8 twist should make that a great heavy bullet rifle

I wish I could "screw up" like you!

Really nice looking rifle, all I have read about them has been extremely positive. Enjoy and be sure to post a range report once you get it.

thanks. I was trying to wrap my head around a rifle with both left and right twists, much less 20 of them.
thanks
