I might be a nag, but I thought the following interesting, that's why I wrote it.

It's been a couple of days, perhaps to few to yet tell what will happen down the road, likely not much I suspect, but despite the lurid predictions seen on telecasts, read in newspapers, and heard on the radio, re the sun set of The Assault Weapons Ban, the sun still rises in the A.M., as well as shining during the day, even here in Pittsburgh, not generally known as the sunniest of places.

What we saw, the sun set of this assault weapons ban, is the end result of a lot of time and effort, as well as some amounts of money, spent by interested parties, people who felt abused by the Assault Weapons Ban, as well they were, and who opted to do something about it. Unfortunately, as seems always the case, there are/were a lot of both Freddie and Fredricka Freeloaders, fellow gun owners, though unfortunately the type that will shed bitter tears, after the fact, but who will never take the small trouble to send an e-mail, write an ordinary letter, or even make a phone call to their ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES, the gentlemen and ladies at city, state and national levels, who sometimes unwisely, make law. A lot of the above mentioned don't vote either, because they all just know that "their vote doesn't count". It sure as hell doesn't, when it isn't cast.

The reasons or rationalizations that one hears from Freddie and Fredricka are somewhat varied, while being singularly uniform in nature. The ones that I've heard over the years, you've probably heard them too, run as follows. I can't write, I don't have time, I don't know who "they are", "they" presumably being their "elected things", or I don't know their address or phone number, The NRA, which all to often they are NOT members of, won't let them (there is that ubiquitous them again) do that, or I'm afraid of getting on some "list", as if they weren't already on "some list".

Yes, I know, it does sound pretty slim, but I personally have heard that line of thinking more than once, as I'm fairly certain you too have. By the way, not everyone who owns guns is an NRA Member, for one reason or another, nor is NRA membership required. I happen to be a Life Member of NRA, and have been since 1973. That aside, I've never been in complete agreement with things they have done, or with things they haven't done. There are other organizations, and the unaffiliated individual can still call their elected things. Point is that the freeloaders don't even call.

O.K., the freeloaders are always with us, and I don't know any way that those who worked to defeat the Assault Weapons Ban, and or other examples of gun control idiocy can separate the freeloaders from the undeserved benefits that arise from the efforts of others, benefits that they too now enjoy. It might be nice to so do, but I cannot say how this might be accomplished. It would be nice to be able to fly without having to bother with some damned airline, but I can't do that either.

At this juncture, readers might be wondering as to the point of this rant. Point follows immediately. Possibly, just possibly, some of the freeloaders, presented with the foregoing might perhaps undergo a change of heart, realizing that at some point in time, they will be no more free rides, and that their hands on the oars might well make the difference. Maybe I'm simply a dreamer, but sometimes, dreams come to pass, and perhaps this one will too. I certainly hope so.

From Calif

Sorry for the poor quality of images. Ok - I contacted Assembly, Calif Legislature, Patty berg, assembly member, first district. And voiced my opposition to AB50, SB 1140, SB 1152 and SB 1733, AB992 and AB 342. And I got a big win. She didn't support a version of SB1152 because she has large numbers of hunters in her district. She didn't indicate if she supported SB 1733 - just said that the measure failed to receive requisite number of votes. And hey, she didn't support AB 992 ".10 cents on every round sold in Calif, and she didn't support banning hunting with dogs. All the rest she supported: AB 50 SB 1140 SB 1152. Man, are we lucky.

Your post is informative or would be to Californianians. Iam curious as to it's relationship to mine however. Might yours have gotten caught in some sort of a computer glitch, re it's placement?

It was relative to the comments re: freeloaders and those that don't e-mail or write to their local, state and national reps. I do write and e-mail. I was trying to show an example of what happens here in Calif. It is all too common to get this type of response.
We, the gun owners in Calif break our bal#s communicating and expressing our views to Calif Gov't, but this state is run by the demo's, including the governor. So you can forget all the bull stuff about anything changing because you are a resident voter, and put forth the effort that most gun owners don't. Other states I don't know anything about. When you give your representives your advise or input on any given gun law, they have already made up their mind. If it continues like this in Calif, and you believe that other states follow Calif's lead, you will soon see what I am talking about.

Here in PA, "My" state representative is not all that communicative as a rule, though he has responded to quite specific points, for instance my soliciting his opposition to a particular proposal. I do not hear a great deal in the way of response from my state senator either, though in one particular instance, based on comment from myself, and perhaps others too, she corrected the county sheriff, when he seemed intent in exceeding his authority. I had a copy of the letter sent over her signature, to that worthy, questioning his action, this letter essentially based on information I had furnished. I also saw a copy of his response to her, wherein he pulled his horns in.

It's been many years since I lived in California, from late 1960's to early in 1970, and it appears that the place has changed, the change not being in the direction of improvement. As to the make-up of the state legislature, seemingly re firearms, the seat of problems, they run for office there, just like in most places, so Im sort of curious as to the following.

Given that most Californians are actually "transplants", that is people from somewhere else, has the state been flooded with anti gunners, and or those who worship at the graven image of the Nanny State? Just asking, for I admit to likely being out of touch with state politics. Of course, it might just be that the "other" party, simply does not do anythikng like a proper job of fielding candidates.

Since the 70's everything has changed in Ca. We do get a lot of requests/letters from the various organizations with gun interests, like Ducks Unlimited, Calif Waterfowl, NRA, Calif gun owners, etc suggesting we contact our reps and voice our opposition to various gun related issues. Some of these letters/e-mails contain the e-mail, phone #s or link to the applicable rep. In all the years I have responded and received a reply, not a single one indicated they were considering my input (or input from other pro-gun responses). They just tell you why they are going to approve anti-gun legislation. They are Democrats, and it makes good re-election hype. On the Federal level it is slightly more positive as the Democrats are still a little more gun-shy and feel that their anti-gun legislation lost their majority rule in congress. The voters, as you suggest, do come from everywhere to Calif, and also leave Calif to other parts. There are, I feel, a number of past issues that still influence votes such as the hi-profile shoot-outs in LA and SF. The gay rights issues, the immigration issues, the abortion issues also play a role in making gun issues a minor consideration (gun issues nothing that would get you re-elected).
A lawyer gets more money and clients relative to the # of laws passed. And Calif has a ton of both. But the inforcement is selective due to the large # of lawyer/polititions here in Calif who are mostly Democrats. Get a gun violation published in the news and the Democrats have a field day. Violate a Calif State Law, such as the mayor of SF did when he performed all of those gay marrages, and nothing happens.
I'm off of my band stand.
