I met Sandy Froman (NRA Pres.) tonight

One thing I meant to write about more was that even my conservative Republican friends who went with me noticed that the crowd of about 1000 people was overwhelmingly (I'd guess 60%) white men over the age of 60. I counted six black people. One was a father and son.

We gun owners need to do a better job of making it clear that the gun rights issue is a civil rights issue. It's about women protecting themselves. It's about gays protecting themselves. It's about oppressed people defending themselves. As Ms. Froman pointed out to me, in some sense the NRA is one of the oldest civil rights groups out there--remember, the KKK's stated aim was to prevent freed slaves from arming themselves.

If we can make that case, we'll have a broader constituency.

I agree. People need to be educated that gun controls laws were enacted in the first place to keep minorities, primarily blacks, from owning guns.

Michael Moore's d*mb*ss film portraying the NRA as being affiliated with the KKK didn't help.

I believe everyone one on the planet has the right and duty to protect themselves. No matter their race, sex, sexual preferences, or religious beliefs. All humans have the right.
