I messed up

:o

Yup, went out for the first day of squirrel with the good ole 870 & loaded up what I thought was 3 new 2 3/4" high brass 6 shot..... well one was a 2 3/4" high brass 6 shot 16 ga!

Got a shot off as I was walking down the trail & it was verry odd, not much kick & I could hear the bb's scatter through the woods @ what sounded like very low velocity.

So, I tried to eject the shell to no avail. Got out my knife & popped it out to find the side of the brass had split  & the end said 16 ga!

Turns out my Brother in law had borrowed my coat without my knowledge & left one of his shells in with mine. Luckily me nor the gun were hurt that I know of..... just kinda scary, I know I'll be checkin' em ALL from now on.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Could it have been worse?

Could have been a 20 gauge. The 20 gauge goes so far into the barrel (but doesn't slip int othe barrel) that you can load a 12 gauge behind, ka-boom..

Wow:eek: .....THAT would have been worse for sure. Luckily for me I have an easier time distinguishing a 20 & 12 by feel, 16 is really close though. That's why I'll check from now on.
