"if you've read some of my other posts with regard to this community that I moved into (follow the links in the opening post), you'll see that I'm less than happy with everything that is going on and the security gate is just the latest in a long list."
--Yeah, I checked that out before I posted. I actually live in an un-gated apartment complex with a couple of other guys.. but when we did live in a gated community, we hated EVERYTHING about it. Seemed to keep all the punks in, and not enough of them out. Not to mention, whenever you were in a hurry, that gate was always too slow. :)

"We live in a sort of out of the way community and EVERYTHING closes up around 10/11PM."
--I live in Atlanta and I don't think that anything closes.

"This meant that I would have had to drive along a dark, empty road to get there. If they were planning on jumping us, that would have been the perfect place to do it with nobody around for miles."
--Yeah, I mean its not a one-size-fits-all situation. And you NEVER know what you're going to do until your in that sitution.

"I didn't like leading them to my house but I felt that if something was going to happen, I would rather have it be on my home turf where I could get my family into the house and maybe get to my more powerful firearms that I had inside."
--I think I would have been a bit more spastic just because my wife and child were in the car.. but I know where you're coming from.

"Your comment about driving around the neighborhood longer was a good one but something that I didn't think of at the time."
--Oh, you never think like a genious (like myself) when you're under pressure! :)

Oh, and I also ment to say something about your revolvers.. For some reason I feel like I'm better off with a revolver. Don't ask me why. Even though I've got a good 'ole S&W .38 (6), I still have two extra speed loaders just in case.. Just as when I carry a 9mm, I always have that extra clip. I don't know what your situation is.. but having been a boyscout pays off somewhere...

God, Guns and Guts made this country great.

KaMaKaZe, I mentioned in the original post (or at least I think I did) that I was armed with two .38 snubbies -- one was on my person and the other one was a carry gun under my front seat. So, I had ten available rounds plus one or two reloads per gun. I normally carry a 9mm, which has better stopping power and which I can do a faster reload with but since this was a quick/local trip to my sister-in-law's house less than 15 minutes away, I didn't bother to switch guns and as a result, I felt that I wasn't as well armed as I could have been which added to my uneasiness with the situation. There's a lesson in here somewhere that you may need to rely on your firearm when you least expect it and you should always be as well armed as you can -- just because you're going to a bad section of town doesn't mean that you are going to be attacked and just because you're going to a good section of town doesn't mean that you won't be attacked. Forutnately, I wasn't attacked but it sure made me think that the possibilities.
