I may sell my shotgun, need help with pricing

I am currently in need of a little extra money and I'm thinking of finally breaking down and selling some of my guns. My shotgun is my first choice because it isn't very expensive so it will be less painful to replace it in a couple months (though that also means that it will be less money in my pocket). I need to know what price range I should expect so I will turn down less. I may sell on consignment at a local store or even sell it outright to the store as gun laws in MD are rather bad and I'd rather someone else deal with them.

I own a Mossberg 500. It is a self defense model with a 20" barrel and 7 round mag capacity. It is NOT parkerized, just blued. It is in excellent condition as it is only about 1yr old. It was around $250 new so I know I won't get much, but I'd feel better selling this as total price to replace it new is about the difference between what I'd get and what it would cost to replace some of my pistols (recently sold a Ruger P89 for about $200 less than the price new).

For similar reasons I'm thinking of also selling my Winchester 94 in 30-30 (newer model, no collector value). Also in great condition (less than one year old, I don't hunt so only used at the range). Anyone have suggestions on price for this?

Also, anyone have advice as to selling to a store or selling on consignment? If anyone has sold on consignment, how long should it take? Consignment would take longer (and I'm doing this because I need the money now) but I'd probably get a little more money. One advantage of consignment (related to its disadvantage- time) is that if it didn't sell by the time I was getting paychecks again (I do have a job lined up but I'm not starting right away) I could get it back without spending any extra money. Of course the big advantage for selling outright is getting the money now (and I have bills that are due).

My humble advice....

Do NOT sell your guns. Do NOT think you can replace them in the future. Find some odd jobs to do on weekends. Cut firewood. Paint someone's porch, deck, or garage. Clean out a farmer's barn.

Do NOT sell your guns!

I agree, it is only lost money if you plan on buying a new one right back again. I'd sooner have a garage sale and eat Top Romen for a week then kiss my mossy goodbye. Cutting your own hair will save you $15 a month also if you have a buzzer within your grasp, I do this myself.

I'd price the mossberg at about $125-150 though.

Sincerely,
Adam

Chaim,

I am potentially interested in your Mossberg. How much do you want. And, where are you located? If close, I may be able to pick it up, if not, I can arrange shipping to my FFL depending on price.

Please let me know.

Jody

Chaim ,

You might consider checking "Gun List" , "The Blue Book of Gun Values" , periodicals ; and the GunsAmerica and Gun Brokers
on the net , they are not auction sites .

You may get a direction for pricing from these , Hawkaaa53
