Shoots a burglar with his vintage Luger.

I guess this could go in the tactics forum, but there's not a whole lot to discuss as far as tactics IMO. Except maybe that it's foolish to give give verbal warnings to intruders.

But I guess in this guy's case his military training kicked in - he shouted Halt ! Who goes there !

Ahhhh... I think its hilarious.

And then my favocrite quote "Hard to hit anything with a .45 but a Luger is a very well balanced gun."

The other point that I wanted to make, is that if this had happened in a state that had "Duty to Retreat", Fred Ricciutti might be going to jail because, as far as I can tell, the home invader didn't do anything threatening after Fred yelled "Halt". All he did was turn and Fred shot him. I guess an argument could be made that if you tell a home invader to halt if they move at all after that - they're threatening you, but anyway, when Fred says halt - he means it!

According to police, Raymond Hills, 25, fled from the Elizabeth Township home just after 4:30 a.m. when 84-year-old Fred Ricciutti shot him with the German Luger he used in the Korean War
So let me get this straight, the vet carried a Luger in Korea?? At least they got the caliber correct..

Wow! When I read of this on FOX News online, the gun was not mentioned.

I was so sure it was a .45 1911 or a .38 Special, likely a S&W M&P of some sort. But possibly a Colt Official Police instead.

But a Luger :D

I hope I am as sharp and straight-shooting at that age. Oh yes, please Lord, let my hand not waver and my eyes not dim. OK, that is now I mean also.

Who wonders where else on Earth would such happenings still be legal. Switzerland?

Did anyone notice in one of the videos how the 'reporter' kept referring to the weapon as a 9mm, even as the camera focused on what was clearly a bottleneck .30 Luger shell casing. And if that wasn't enough, you could actually read the base stamp on the casing.

He used a Luger in Korea? I'm a little surprised to hear that. Also it looks like the Luger's not the only thing he brought back from Korea. Lesson: Don't pick on a combat veteran, even if he's 80 years old.

Police have gun????

Shooters:
The police have Fred's gun? Why? This sounds like a serious violation of Fred's rights to me.

As evidence? Evidence of what? Nothing to prove here.

What think you?

Live well, be safe.

Standard SOP in any jurisdiction Prof. He will be getting it back soon but the case has to be adjudicated first. Judge waives his magic wand says "good shoot" and he gets it back...
