I Love My Little Mini 14

I love my little Ruger Mini-14. She is so trim and handy. She does not always satisfy, but she is always reliable.

I thought of trading her in on a more exotic mistress, like an AR-15, but the high maintenance made me think twice.

Perhaps someday I will have a mistress like the AR, but my first love will always be my Mini.

She is black stocked, with stainless works. She rarely needs care. She always shoots. She is always there for me.

I name all my firearms. She is named "Cheri." I will never sell her.

I once saw a thread "Why does everyone hate the Mini-14".

This is a thread that says I love her. Let's hear some praise for this simple little effective rifle!

Reason #17 why guns are better then women -

No, I won't.

My heart is owned by a harem of ARs. (What high maintenance?) I could never go back to the Mini, I would feel like I was slumming. :D

But seriously, the Mini - 14 is a great little rifle. Shoot and be happy! And remember, she won't mind if you cheat a little with another, just don't forget her - there's nothing that distresses your shooting hardware like the dust of disuse!

MMMMMMMMMINI-14, Great rifle! Got three. Dont want an AR.
Got a small pile of 30 rounders, 10 rounder, and two 90 rounders(still unfired). Got a little "double tap" device which inserts easily into trigger group that doubles its rate of fire. It makes it fire once when the trigger is pulled, once when released. It came with an ATF letter stating the device is legal because it doesnt cause more than one round to be fired "with a single function" of the trigger.:D

Pulling the trigger is a single function, releasing is a single function. I leave it out most of the time, but its fun occasionally, and would be great in a firefight. Function is 100%

I learned how to easily duplicate the device. I'll send ya' one gratis if ya' want one. Long live the Mini owners!:D

Yee-haw!!

I just put one of those on layaway.. can I be an "honorary Mini lover" for a couple weeks more till it's official? It's gonna be my "Uncle Sam bought me this one" rifle.

I gotta second the "don't want an AR" sentiment.. seems like every time I start to think I might like one, someone else on the range lets me try theirs.. and all of a sudden I remember why I traded in my first one... SPROINGGGGG

I figure if I like the M-14, I'll like the Mini.. at least on relatively close targets.. just handles so well!

Edward.. double tap whatsit? Sounds interesting...

AMEN! Don't tell anyone, but I have been known to curl up in bed next to my Stainless Mini 14 and sleep like a baby. ;)

I have a stainless Mini-14 and I really like it too. However, I don't think I'll take it to bed with me. My wife and I are just not the swinging type.

I like Mini-14 as well, but...

ArmaLite now has the AR-180B at $590 (MSRP). At that price level, it will be a heck of a competitor to the Mini-14, particularly considering that the AR-180B can take AR-15/M-16 mags and is considerably more rugged (or seems so anyway).

Theoretically, the AR-180B should be just as reliable as the Mini-14 (more so than an AR-15).

Rebeldon -
You will realize your true love when your wife asks you to choose between her and your rifle. ;)

Just returned from my fourth range visit with my SS/Syn Mini 14. I also received yesterday another NIW PMI 30rd mag from gunpartscorp.com for $29.95! These mags work well and I like my Mini quite alot. I want to try a Mini 30 next. Ar15s don't interest me at all and after shooting the Mini 14 I don't see anything that an M1 carbine can do that the Mini can't do better.

I Got Her Out Tonight

I got my little Mini-14 out tonight, not to shoot her, but just to fondle her. Just to handle her. She is so easy to handle one handed. Put a sling on her and she is very stable. This is one sweet little rifle for sure. At 50 yards, I think, all things considered, this little kit can not be beat.

There are some guns that just seem so right. The Mini-14 is one of those. All of you sub MOA 100 yard shooters need not apply. The Mini is not meant for you. When I think I paid less than 450 bucks for a control my street .223 semi-automatic with a decent trigger, decent accuracy, and total simple realiable action, well, it is not hard to fall in love with this little rifle for sure.

I wanted to spend my 600 bucks of tax refund on an AR-15 but I am seriously reconsidering. I am on a waiting list fot that AR-180B from armalite. We shall see. But for now I remain true to my little Cheri, my little Mini-14.

Skorzeny, it seems to me that the Mini-14 advantage may be in reliability because i does not use the fouling-prone gas impingment system of the AR-15. That's what I've always heard, anyway. Does the Armalite AR-180B use a system different from the gas impingement system?

bad_dad_brad , I hope that you are young and willing to INVEST. The first semi auto rifle I ever bought was a Mini-14.

tentcamp:

Yes, the AR-180 design uses a different system. It does not blast the gas straight back to the bolt. Instead, the gas operates the piston.

Theoretically, this should make the gun as reliable as the Mini.

I'd love to buy the AR-180B, but I am going to wait until its reliability becomes more apparent AND when it becomes more available (as I understand now there is a long wait list).

PreserveFreedom,

My rifle hasn't given me three beautiful babies. Not that I've tried.

My wife knows better than to ask me to choose between her and my guns. That's like asking me to choose between her and breathing.

I've held a friend's AR-180 that he was trying to sell at a gun show. I didn't like the finish. If I recall correctly, I think it was painted. It just seemed delicate, not rugged.

I have to add my comments. Im still looking for a rifle, never seem to have the $400 $600. I once picked up the mini-14 at the shop and that all it took. Darn thing fit me well, I liked the sights and I liked the look of it. Ever since them I wanted one , even though most will say the AK is the better choice, or the SKS is cheaper.

I check out the one at another store everytime I go in. I read all about the bad groups and barrel heat up. I think if you compare the AK and mini in accuracy theyre about the same. The edge goes to the mini since youre buying an America rifle, youll probably buy America ammo for it. It will fit taller shooters. I felt cramped up with the SKS.

I wonder how much someone could make providing a reliable 10 rd mag. You could sell them for $25 if people knew you were getting a quality mag. $100 for a 30 rd is a crime.

I like mine too. Not suitable if your shooting for groups, but it makes a great camp gun.

ahhhh........

My mini was my first RIFLE and semi-auto too. Still love her to but an AR has joined my harem too. Add some aftermarket stuff (new front sight with flash suppressor) and she will look even sweeter. Enjoy DAROGUE1
