I don't own a shotgun,,,
But if I did I would want one of these.

A big, long, heavy shotgun might not be the best choice for a what went bump in the night weapon.
Especially when stashed under the bed clothes.
"Hey you guys out in the hall who just broke into my house ---
Wait a sec please while I untangle this danged thing."

I am with you on that g.willikers. The OP asked if that setup has been around for a while and it has. I did something similar but a bit different, and simply screwed two rubber coated hooks from the Home Depot into the bottom of the slats of my 4 poster. To access the shotgun, I have to get out of bed and it isn't as quick to get to as a handgun, but I don't know if I want it too accessible while I am sleeping. If I wanted something accessible in a hurry, it would be a handgun on the night stand.

You could also store a long sub sandwich on that thing in case you want a midnight snack.

Personally, I would choose a shotgun over a handgun for HD, but I don't know if that rack is any more convenient than leaning the gun in a nearby corner next to a dresser or something.

Their marketing guy isn't a gun guy,,,

I agree it would work better with a shorter shotgun.

I screwed an old Uncle Mike's holster to the side rail,,,
I just drop my arm and the gun is in perfect position to draw.

I had never seen this done for a long gun of any type.
