I really like the old ads, especially the Iver Johnson ones. Can you imagine a firearm company running an ad these days that shows a small child in bed and playing with one of their guns. It's such a bad concept, it's good.
I would use a 20-1 ratio for values c. 1950. Gas was $.20 a gallon (OK, 19.9 cents), a Coke was a nickel, and a hamburger $.15. That would "translate" the $32.50 S&W to $650 today, which is not too far off.
No the thing is, if a company put out an ad that had say " the smart mans way to stop crime", well theyd get sued by those liberals for promoting self defense.
Notice how much more literate and descriptive the ads were back then?
Yeah, the 20x rate of inflation sounds more like it.
Lots of folks only earned about $35 to $50 per week in 1950s.
Depending on government claims about inflation is guaranteed to be misleading.
g.willikers, not only did society speak and write in a more literate fashion, it was not considered shameful to advocate carrying a handgun on your person or in your car. my how the laws have come against us since then huh?
