I like firearms, hate stupid firecrackers on the 4th.

That's right, if I want to make noise I'll go to a range and do it away from the neighbors. Why can't my neighbors take their firecrackers and fireworks, oh...about 50 or so yards from my damn windows. Don't you think it's kinda funny how just because it's the fourth this is supposed to be acceptable? There are gun people I know who make a whole day of it with guns, cannons and fireworks out in the boonies and city folk probably consider them nutty. Go figure.

It`s only one night a year.

When my children were little, I was glad to see it rain on the 4th. It has done that a lot, but we missed a rain this 4th. I noticed that our last son who is now 9 years old, went to sleep without any trouble.
I wonder how many murders (with the use of guns) go unnoticed on the 4th.

Git som 45,
WTF was that?

I wouldn't like being your neighbor, you sound unreasonable, argumentative.

I apologize, I am not normally so abrasive.
Please accept my appologies.

You are a fellow Pro-Gun neighbor and I need to respect your views... :)

I don't follow your reasoning here. I don't think fireworks or guns should be fired around my window at night unless there is a life/limb type need. Though perhaps the fact that one has to get up at 4:30 am for work makes a difference?

Last night, as CindyH and I were trying to sleep, the idiot neighbors kept lighting off their leftovers.

I mumbled something about loading up some blanks for the Enfield. Cindy wasn't amused. :)

Its only one day a year for Pete's sake...you (dare I say) sissies :)
When I was a kid, the two things I liked more than anything in the world were: shooting guns; 2) blowing up firecrackers. Look at it this way, many of the kids who love firecrackers, like to hear things go bang, and will probably grow up wanting to shoot guns. When I see those little buggers making noise in the streets with their Black Cats and bottle rockets, I try to see the future gun enthusiast in them.

On the 3rd, a local resort set off their professional fireworks about 1/4 mile from my house. The BOOM shook my windows. I was asleep on the couch at 9:30pm when this happened.

After the first explosion, I went from horizontal to vertical in .1 seconds.

My house shook for 30 minutes.

I understand that it's "The Fourth" or the day before, but I don't appreciate being awakened that way. It was too close IMO. I met a neighbor who was on his front lawn with a hose watching for sparks to hit his house.

I have two dogs and the kid next door tosses 'crackers just opposite where the dogs are. It's been like this the three 4th's I've lived here. The adult father and his boy know what a commotion it causes with the dogs yet they don't alter their behavior. This year I really wanted to chamber three rounds of birdshot and fire them into the damp soil. But I won't engage in a battle of irresponsible one-up-manship. That's just how it made me feel. I bet it would feel pretty darn satisfying though to pump those rounds into the ground and send a shiver down some spines.

Last year, the kids in my neighborhood started shooting off firecrackers July 1st and didn't stop until the 15th. Yes, I know they're fun (for the people doing them), and I don't mind it on the 4th (although a nice salute to Old Glory in honor of Independence Day would be much more appropriate), but jeeeezzz! I had a dog last year and those things drove him nuts! Honestly, it drove me nuts, too. They did it until after midnight every night for two weeks!
Like I said, I know they're fun, etc., but so are a lot of other things that you don't do if you live near other people, especially late at night.
You know, if I set up a PA system and played the Star Spangled Banner, I probably wouldn't get one complete song done before the cops came out to investigate a report of disturbing the peace!

Jeeze Louise... It's our countries birthday for crying out loud!!!

Fireworks are part of it.. MILLIONS people enjoy them and the noise that goes with them... :)

But some people would find something wrong no matter what was being done or how it was put on. As long as fireworks are used ina responsible manner.. WHY NOT??

What really irks me about fireworks is the oh-so-patriotic air associated with them.

I mean, really. How many of these sparkler-holding M80-lighting dweebs give two shiites about the ideals upon which this country was founded? Not very damn many, is my bet.

Some of us are patriots in the true sense, and therefore don't need to loudly proclaim it a few days out of the year. Kind of like those Christians who only practice kindness and goodwill around the end of December.

I have nothing against fireworks on the 4th of July, but does it have to continue for two weeks? And do you really think the people who set them off every night are doing it to be patriotic?

You know what happens don't you?---First they ban your fireworks, then they ban your guns----at least that's what they did in Australia.
We used to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th,but people got hit in the eye by skyrockets etc.so eventually it was banned. Now only properly licensed operators can let them off (with a permit of course).
Don't you see where it leads to?
BTW "Guy Fawkes" was charged with entering Parliament meaning to blow it up--As I and many others thought--He was the only man ever to enter such a place with an honourable intention.

I don't have a problem with fireworks, per se (although they are illegal in PA -- doesn't seem to slow people down any). But on several occasions over the past week, they have given me a start: the worst was as I was riding in a car with the windows down in the city, in not such a great neighborhood, when some kids about 20 yds. away lit some firecrackers on the sidewalk. I ducked and started to reach for my CCW before I realized (in about 1.5 sec.) what was happening. Took 5 minutes for my heart rate to come back down to normal nonetheless. Maybe too much coffee ...

I don't think anyone suggested banning them. I don't like having anything banned, but people can be more courteous (and, in tuc22's neighbors' case, far less obnoxious).
Besides, you can tell by the title of this thread that it's just a rant like many others. I like to rant! :p
