I killed my gun belt!

RIP Galco belt.

In an effort to 'revive' the belt's stiffness, I took the advice of a few people and stuck it in 190 degree water for about a minute. Lo and behold, out came this pathetic, shrunken piece of leather all twisted and gnarled like a piece of beef jerkey. It was even curled lengthwise like a taco.

Oh well. Time for a new belt I guess. Glean from my misfortune, don't do what I did!

Sorry that happened to you. I have tinkered with leather holsters and belts for quite a while, and have never heard of this process! We sometimes "case" leather to tool or stamp it, but that is a LITTLE water and not at that temperature.

Perhaps the BOZO's who suggested this to you, should pony up for a new belt.

Good Luck & Be Safe

P/S The best belts I have ever used were from Milt Sparks Leather in Idaho

I'll probably just get a Beltman when I get the $$$. Which is gonna be a while in this economy.

On a side note, my belt has definitely stiffened up a LOT and I still wear it, but it's still slightly curled lengthwise.

I don't get what you are saying either.

Some belts have a polymer stiffener in them to add rigidity and that exposure to heat would make it curl I'd bet.
