I Just Ordered an M&P Shield 9mm (and a Holster too)

My EDC for the last few years has been a Sig P229. It is kind of big, but not too big. And, it is kind of heavy, but not too heavy. Then, shortly after I got my Sig, my older son bought a Shield 9mm. I liked the feel of it in my hands, but I never got the chance to shoot it before he sold it.

Now, fast-forward to the last few weeks. My son let me carry, and shoot, his current EDC, a Glock 43. I really liked the size and the weight of the gun on my hip. On the other hand, I didn’t really like shooting it. However, while I was at my local indoor range with his Glock, I tried out a couple of single-stacks rentals, including the Shield 9mm. That was enough to make me start checking prices.

Last night I found one on sale on gunbuyer.com (no affiliation) for $299.00 with free shipping. Now I’m just waiting for the notice of shipment, with tracking info, to my local FFL. And, after reading several reviews, and watching a bunch of Youtube videos, I went ahead and ordered a Vedder LIghtTuck IWB holster for the gun also.

Stay tuned for updates!

I love my 9mm Shield. It's been reliable, accurate and easy to carry. It gets carried more than any other gun I own.

Nice pistol. I shoot mine very well, one of my best shooters. I EDC a double stack 40 and currently just wear mine in a tuck situation. I have a vedder lighttuck clone from foxtrot concealment and use a gearmate nylon dual mag carrier from walmart that also works pretty well in a back pocket.

I bought the 9mm Shield too.
Liked it so much I bought the 40 and the 45. I like the .45 the best.
The grip and the trigger are better on the .45

Same here - last July I rented a Shield 9mm and a Glock 43 and after firing both I knew it was time to start shopping for a Shield. Liked it so much I picked up a Shield 45 not to long afterwards and I agree with Capt Rick on the grip and trigger of the Shield 45.

Just finished putting night sights on one of my Shields...I have two...a few minutes ago. You won't regret buying one for a carry gun.

Congratulations. I find the Shield points naturally for me. I carried my Shield today OWB under a coat. The barrel is short enough that it still conceals well in a DeSantis mini-scabbard (thanks to a recommendation from a member here). I think it's more difficult getting to a 1911 IWB with all the layers of clothing I've been wearing in the deep freeze this week.

I have had a 9mm shield with factory night sights for just over a year and its been a great single stack compact pistol. I have well over 3000 rounds though it without a single gun related malfunction. I am confident that you will enjoy yours.

Congratulations. IMO you made a very good choice. I have the 9mm & 45 Shield.

I don't have any experience with Vedder holsters. I have mine in JM Custom Kydex.

I got my Shield today, but my Vedder holster is still a few days away, so I went ahead and picked up a Blackhawk SERPA CQC holster. I would have gotten one anyway for the range, CC under vest, light jacket, etc.

Range trip photos tomorrow.

The Shield is one of the great successes in the recent firearms field, love the way mine shoots and seems like everyone has a Shield or is about to get one.

So far, I’m really enjoying the Shield.

I wonder just how many Shields have been sold in the past 3 years.
I guess S&W hit a homerun with that little gem.
Congats on the Shield, we all seem to like them.

The only advantage of the Glock 43 is that it’s a bit smaller, and thus can be carried in a front pocket. I regret selling my Shield.

Finally Got the Holster!

I finally got my Vedder LightTuck holster today. The fit and finish seem very nice, and the metal clip feels really sturdy. It came already set at the highest ride height, and I adjusted the cant to as close to zero as I could, while still being able to get a full grip on the firearm. I also adjusted the retention.
