HI this is only my second post in the forum so here goes. I recently baught a gun for home/self defense and target shooting. it's Ruger .357 Police Service Six, i'm rather happy with it, it shoots where i point it and the kick isn't too strong. i Paid 180$ for it at a pawn shop. so here is my question a buddy of mine who i completely respect says i got the raw end of the deal, i mean to hear him talk i really got screwed over. But i'm begining to suspect that he doesn't much care for Ruger all  .....
what do ya'll think?
Thanks so much
Sarah

p.s. the only thing wrong i can see with the gun is it does not have it's factory orginal grips and it's got a few scratches from use, nothing too seriouse at all

Regarding your Ruger:
First off, if your purchase has made you happy, all other opinions shouldn"t be allowed to bother you, because after all I am sure you allready know they are
just opinions..MY :) feeling is that I would be very happy with the deal. I am glad that you are shooting the gun and that you like it.I would try to hang on to it and make it a keeper---maybe add some more to it later on. I have owned many guns in my life and after spent many dollars and traded around many times thru practically every caliber there is I have come to realize that the 357 is still the best choice.Simple, easy to shoot, accurate, and most of all
it gets the job done---every time. I used to own a blue .357 security six,I really wish that I had it back right now.
Maybe, just maybe your friend is a little jealous of your good fortune...

The various Ruger "Six" revolvers have a devoted following amongst those who find the GP-100 to be a bit too bricklike. :)

The Service Six is an excellent revolver. I am one of those people Tamera speaks of who prefers the old "Six" to the GP100. $180 for a decent one is a very fair price. Enjoy. ;)

The Service Six is a good revolver, Sarah

The nearest equivalent in the S&W line is the Model 13 - - similar size, weight, and handling characteristics. The lockwork of the Ruger is a good deal more robust than that of the S&W, which is a stout medium frame revolver in its own right.

While I haven't been pricing Rugers lately, anything under $200 for an M13 is a good deal in my area.

I'm not a big time fan of the Ruger DAs, but I believe you got a good deal on yours.

Best,
Johnny

Good deal on a great revolver. I just bought a Speed Six (fixed sight, 2.75" barrel) a few months ago for $250. The same store has a Service Six for the same price. As was stated before though, if it shoots well and you are happy with it, then it was a good deal.

Anytime you can buy a good specimin of any of the big 3 names in revolvers for under $200 your doing very good. Sounds like some anti Ruger or anti revolver snobbery to me. Buy what you like, shoot what you like,
Enjoy the gun and welcome!

You got a good deal. Nothing wrong with a Service Six. His not liking Rugers is his problem. I see anti-Ruger snobbery among many of my friends and aquaintances but that usualy ends once we get out to the range and they experience first hand how a 'sniff' Ruger outshoots them. Oh the humanity! :)

Enjoy your new gun! Have fun and be safe.

I don't see them for less than $300.00 in my area. They are great revolvers. I feel that a set of Pachmayr Gripper rubber grips tames them down in recoil. I feel you did well.

You did ok on your new Ruger, if its in good shape and shoots well don't listen to those that want to down grade it. For your info the last date of manufacture was 1988. Happy shooting! :)

You didn't get hurt on the deal. That model ruger will handle 1,000's of rounds without any repairs. They are almost indestructable!

I have two of em' in the gun safe right now...reliable, rugged, and that's all you can ask of any gun!

wouldn't ya know

the "buddy" of mine just emailed me taht he would buy it from me for 100$ isn't that nice of him :barf: thanks ya'll i like the gun, but it's nice to have second opinions.

Another nice thing about your Ruger - -

Although there are not just a ton of aftermarket accessories and gimmicks for it, this is one of those revolvers that is extremely useful WITHOUT add-ons. Just in case you want to try different stocks, though, you might want to check out the CDNN website at:
http://www.cdnninvestments.com/

They have a huge inventory of Ruger (and other) handgun stocks, at amazingly low prices. They are located in Abilene, Texas, and I have been very impressed with the speed of their service. On one occasion, I ordered several magazines late one morning and the package arrived less than 24 hours later!

All the best,
Johnny

I think you got a good price, as I paid $200 for mine ($220 after tax and NICS call). You got a fine revolver and I wouldn't sell it to your "friend" even for TWICE what you paid for it! :D

Seems like it works perfect for you, just keep enjoying it!

took the gun to a smith

and he seems to think i got as he put it "on hell of a good gun at one hell of a good deal." he said the gun was at 87% and is a straight shooter :D
