I just got a Ruger LC9S for my wife and took it to the range for some testing and run in. My wife wanted a pistol that was relatively easy to rack, she tried one of these out and liked it so I got her one with the new Viridian Automatic Laser. The price was about $399 including the pistol, one magazine, laser, holster, spare batteries and star wrenches to adjust the laser. The pistol and accessories came in a nice cardboard box with all the usual paperwork, lock and such. At first I thought come on Ruger a cardboard box, then I remembered what came in the box and the very fair price I paid for it and immediately felt better.
After unboxing I immediately purchased an additional magazine and went to the range. For ammo I used 300 rounds of mixed ammo; Winchester White Box 115gr round nose, Freedom Arms 115 gr JHP, some Hornady Home Defense, some 124 gr round nose and some 147 gr round nose. The factory sights were right on for me. I used the 115 gr round nose to adjust the laser to the factory sights, This was a simple process and took about 5-10 minutes using the included star bit. Once sighted in the laser remained right on and didn't appear to have moved at all during the test. I did my testing inside so I did take the pistol outside to see how the laser was in bright daylight. It was easily visible with in 50 feet but not nearly as much as inside or at night, which is to be expected. The holster and laser worked flawlessly and the laser always came on when drawn form the holster.
This little wonder fired every round and didn't have any glitches what so ever. It at anything and all that I fed it. The pistol being small and light does have felt recoil but it is easily managed. Interestingly enough my wife didn't mind it at all. I think with her smaller hand she may have actually gotten a better grip than I could with my larger ham sized paws.
When I got home I field stripped the pistol, which was very easy and clean up was straight forward. There were mot unusual finds except that the internals were better finished and fitted than I would have suspected for such a value priced weapon.
All in all I was very impressed with this little pistol. I trust that the laser and istol work reliably enough to trust it as a carry weapon. I trust it so much I just went out ad got one for me as well.
