I just got a honking big bonus (at least for my company...)

I'm entertaining ideas on what I should do/get with it.

Right now the top contender is a Smith 25-2 in .45 Colt, although the thought of getting a Kel Tec 32 and having a bunch more money left over is enticing...

Ideas, anyone?

Chances are he knows how to use it.

You could take your wife out for a wonderful dinner and surprise her with a tennis braclet or something. :p

Uhm.... Well, that would be a problem, because my EX-wife and I haven't spoken in nearly 3 years. And I sure as hell am NOT going to give her anything.

You could get your wife a Dillon 550B with a few accessories. Couple sleeves of primers and some new brass to replace the split neckers.

Sam...my mouse gun is a 9X32R

Oops; scratch "wife" and subtitute person of your choice.

The 25 - 2 is a 45 acp/ar. It's the 25 - 5 that is the 45 Colt.

I don't recall the numbers for the Mountain Guns in acp or colt
but there's a 625, a 625-3, a 625-7.

The blued pinned 25's whatever the dash number are Real Smiths.

The I think that the acp/ar is more versatile, as you can use all the 45 acp personal protection loads, then go to the 45 super for hunting. Get ahold of the 20 and 30 year old loading manuals. They were kicking 250 grainers out hot enough to where the 45 super loads look warm. The disadvantage of the acp/ar is the moon clips always get sprung and drag on the recoil shield and also require a heavier hammer strike due to the springiness of the clips absorbing some of the firing pin's energy.

The 45 colt smiths don't have the problems but they don't have the wide variety of loads.

I think that almost all the 6 series N frames have the upgrades to the lockwork to fix the problems the old 29's have of shooting loose.

Besides, I think you should think it over a while til after I decide to go with a 3 or 4 inch 625 in acp/ar.

Mike, the 45 Colt Mountain designation is 625-6. And yes, RustyS, the 6 series Smiths do have the beefed-up lockwork. The only problem with a Mountain Gun will not be durability, it will be heavy (subjective) recoil due to its light weight. Regardless, I love mine and (as can be gathered from these posts) wouldn't take anything for it. :D

SG12, thanks for the info. I used to shoot full power 41 mag loads in my 4" Smiths on defensive courses. But at the same time, I couldn't handle the recoil of a 4" 44 mag Smith at full power loadings. That was when I was young and stupid, now even the 3/4ths loaded silvertips seem heavier than I care for.

I would use the money to foil a gun buy back program.

Rusty,

There were apparently several hundred 25-2s in .45 Colt made, more or less as special items, but the chances of finding one of those is pretty slim...

Also, the chances of me getting ANY gun in souless steel are about as good as me getting my ex-wife a dozen roses. Well, I can think of ONE occasion when I would send her roses... :)

But I'm still not getting a stainless handgun.

JohnWill, you're about as much use here as you were on the old forum. :)

I made my decision, at least the first one.

I brought work home this evening. I NEED a computer work station. The desk the computer is on just isn't suitable for working on the documentation I have. It's driving me frantic.

Get your new desk and then use it. Claim it on your income taxes "If you can" and take that money and get the gun of your choice. Tell your boss you used the bonus to buy a desk for when you do work at home in hopes he/she gives you another bonus for YOU> :)

Sorry, L,

I TRIED to keep it on the handgun track, I really TRIED!

You saw it, they forced me into an off-topic thread! It's their fault! :)

Mike,

Congrats on the bonus!!!

Like someone else mentioned, you can NEVER have too may "N" frames. Especially those in the .45 calibers.

Model 25-1 1960 change extractor rod, .45 acp
-2 1961 eliminate triggerguard screw
-3 1977 3" Lew Horton .45 acp AND short cylinder .45 colt
-4 Short cylinder Anniversary Edition .45 colt
-5 Long cylinder, and eliminate barrel pin
-6 Unfluted cylinder in .45 acp
-7 Unfluted cylinder in .45 colt
-8 Long cylinder notch in .45 acp
-9 Long cylinder notch in .45 colt

Good luck with your new gun, what ever it ends up being...

Joe

Go NRA

Things to do with the bonus:

Take a couple of non-shooter friends to the range and rent them guns so they can see what it's about.

If the friends like the range, take them to dinner afterward and talk RKBA.

If they're in favor of RKBA, treat them to an NRA or GOA membership.

Of course, if you'd rather donate it to diabetes research, I'd be grateful. The doctor just upped Thelma's insulin dosage.
