i just got a concealed carry holster in today i ordered for my springfeild xd tactical 45 acp. due to excessive slide wear from carrying i decided to get a holster for it. it ran me just over 40 dollars with shipping. it is leather. i think the brand name was theholsterstore or something like that. it is kind of a tight fit.

Please explain what this means.

Are you saying that you were carrying it previously??

Without a holster?

And this was somehow causing excessive wear?

yes. i was carrying it without a holster before for about 2 years. i got the gun new about 2 years ago. i just carried it in the waist band of my pants on my right side. one ex marine i know that was in war in iraq before told me i need a holster to. he thinks my gun will fall out of my pants without one.

...................

I hope you're not carrying it loaded, at least? What you're carrying is a paperweight. Good lord, man. That's a very, very irresponsible way to carry a firearm.

Good luck with the new holster. I don't have any experience with that particular brand. At a similar price, albeit a bit different style, the Alien Gear holsters are pretty decent.

The stories of guys carrying Glocks in their waistbands, reaching for them when they slip down and inadvertently pulling the trigger are rampant. Sometimes they get lucky and just go to jail. Sometimes they neuter themselves and then go to jail. Carrying like that is a REALLY BAD idea, don't do it EVER AGAIN.

Anyone who carrys a loaded gun in their wasteband without a holster is very reckless, iggnorant, and just plain stupid.
And you only got a holster because of slide wear???
That is the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard.
I tell you, after reading some of your other posts, I dont think owning firearms is in your best interest or anyone around you.
This is the kind of ignorant behavior that gives RESPONSIBLE gun owners a bad rap.
Seroiusly your guns should be taken away from you.

I'm going to assume this isn't a troll post and provide some info. The jury is still out though.

Wear to the finish is going to happen on a gun that is carried no matter how you do it. You will probably have more wear using a leather holster than with no holster. Wear is normal, and it will not hurt the gun. Be proud of the wear, it gives the gun character.

Obviously I agree with everyone else who criticizes carry without a holster. In addition to being safe and responsible, a holster will also allow you to draw faster and more consistently.

I am going to go out on a limb here and assume the OP has not taken a defensive pistol class (I've not met an instructor who would allow someone in a class without a holster). So I will add that just like carrying without a holster, carrying without any training is not helping you or your family.

Just because he doesn't (didn't?) know any better, doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to own a firearm, so let's bring the self-righteousness down a little bit.

xboxhero, I think ScotchMan's suggestion is a good one. It would seem that while you own a firearm, that you are not very familiar with proper handling or safety measures. This is not intended to be rude, but as helpful. Please, please do yourself a favor and take a basic firearms course. They should be available from your local gun shop or they should be able to recommend someone to you.

A former co-worker claimed he could comfortably conceal carry a pocket pistol wearing a Speedo. He was about 350#. There's an image for ya.

What I'll never get is how folks will spend hundreds of dollars on a firearm, and then have an issue spending tens of dollars on a holster.

At least the OP recognized his error, albeit a bit late, and is remedying the problem. I've met people in the flesh that think they don't need a holster. It's important sometimes to remember that as an enthusiast forum we often have a perspective on firearms that others seem to lack.

I can think of 2 circumstances where you could carry without a holster. If the gun is chambered and it has a long double action trigger and a manual safety... or the gun is not chambered.

I appendix carried a full sized Glock without a holster out of necessity once. I was leaving my car in a store parking lot for a long while after a trip to the range and I was not comfortable leaving my Glock behind in the range bag allowing for a simple smash and grab. I was pocket carrying another pistol (double action with manual safety LC9) with no holster, and I tucked the Glock in my waist band and tightened my belt. I was surprised how easy it was to carry concealed that way, it actually felt quite secure. The gun was completely empty though, and I don't like the idea of having to chamber a round after drawing the pistol... I guess I could see carrying a Beretta 92fs that way with a round chambered, hammer down, safety on... but ultimately holsters are your friend. They secure the hand gun properly and orient it for a consistent draw.

Kid, you need to sell all of your "guns" and buy a car. I read your post, you can't afford a car but you can afford all of these expensive guns? I also noticed another recurring statement in your posts, "I use to." You "use to" have all these amazing pistols and rifles but you can't remember the name of the holster that should be sitting in front of you. No more movies, the X box goes to the pawn shop, and if you do own a gun sell it NOW! No shame, I had to sell some guns for the closing costs on a house we bought. Your not fooling anyone kid, nobody but youself. Work hard kid and if shooting is what you wanna know, this is the place to go. BTW, don't put cold blue on an AR-15.

And spend some time, and money on professional training BEFORE buying any more guns again!
Carrying a firearm isn't "Grand Theft Auto", or any other video game!

Glad you're using a holster now.

I've heard good things about The Holster Store. Supposed to be decent, low-cost holsters.

Leather holsters are typically stiff when new. Just wear your holstered gun as much as possible and the leather should break-in nicely. If not, wrap the UNLOADED gun in a plastic bag and let it sit in the holster for a day or two.
