Hi guys,

I started a new job about 4 months ago (in Canberra, Australia), so most of my workmates don't know about my love of hunting and shooting, including the subject of this post.

Anyway, I quickly found out that one of the women I work with is very anti-gun, I generaly don't have much to do with her but today about six of us were having coffe when this person started a tirade about the NRA.

While she did'nt start foaming at the mouth, I was a bit worried about the possibilty of rabies :) After about 4-5 minutes
of this she finnished with the statement:

"I'm glad I don't live in America, I could never work with a member of the NRA"

At this point I slid my NRA membership card (which had arrived about a day before) across the table. After a few seconds of stunned silence I offered to go up to HR and get her some resignation forms.

I wish I had had a camera with me to capture the look on her face. :)

Super Cool! The best way to win the hearts and minds of the undecided is to show them we are more peacable, trustable, and all round better guys and gals than the "morally superior" anti-s.

Great story, Ash

I'm curious...just why would an Aussie (her) be so concerned and so obsessed with the NRA, though? Of what practical effect does the NRA have upon her life?

DC--they don't have to have any impact on her, all it takes is for the evening news to say they're Baaaaaaad. And in Australia, if I'm not mistaken, there's recently been a spate of news reports about the NRA "twisting" their crime statistics.

I read some of the rebuttals. One was that the NRA's claim about a huge increase in armed robberies was misleading because most of the increase was committed with weapons other than guns.

Ash, that is incredibly cool. I can't shut up long enough to do anything so subtle or sneaky. :D

I was in a meeting with a bunch of workers, and we were discussing increasing the value of membership to our organization. I suggested adding travel discounts at hotels like some other organizations do. They guy in charge said "who does that?" I flipped my NRA card on the table.

Stone cold silence

It was as if i had revealed membership in baby smashers inc.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! So cool!
I have a feeling I'm a very small minority of one at my new job (think they're all anit's). No one knows I read this stuff all day 'cause I don't *look* like the type. ;)

Oh good lord! It does not seem to occur to them that criminals havin weapons other than guns feel safe to use them in crimes because those cane toads in the government banned all the damn guns! What a bunch of fools!

I bought my brother (who lives in Australia) NRA membership.

Here in the US you can find some ignorance and brainwashed stupidity on the topic; but haven't experienced anything approaching this.

Glad I moved away.

Battler.

Thought you guys would appreciate that.

Bruce: Canberra is a great place, its not our fault the rest of the country sends its politicians here. :) How is the sand over there in the west? :)

Check out the NRA web site (I'm sure someone here can point the way ;) ). In their membership section they have a option for international members. Cost me about A$50 for 1 year. Most likely I'm now on some Aust. Govt. list of possible subversives.

DC: Who knows? My experience with anti's leads me to think that many are insecure, self-centered control freaks who can't stand the idea that anyone, anywhere thinks differently to the way they do.

That is almost good enough to get me to re join the NRA. Now if they would just listen to lowly members on issues like "I don't want a ton of proproganda and requests for money every month in my mail when I am a member".
