I just checked out the Beretta 9000, and I'm...

a little dissappointed. The frame just doesn't seem 'right' to me at all.

I've never really had any problem with the fit of auto pistols. Even large frame Glocks are quite manageable, though not necessarily ideal for me. The pistols that feel the best(to me) are the 1911, BHP, CZ75(& 100), P97 Ruger, Sig P220 and Beretta 92 series. This should be able to allow you to relate to my description.

This gun has an unusually long reach from the front strap to the back strap. It is such that I can't cannot obtain a proper grip, in-line with my forearm, AND reach the trigger properly. The pad of my finger can JUST make it onto the trigger face for me to pull it. Certainly nowhere near, or 'in', the groove of the first joint where the best leverage can be obtained. The front strap is also abbreviated to the point where my three fingers can JUST make contact. And that is only because the baseplate lengthens it a tad. This gun is just waiting to pinch the first unknowing pinkie finger that remains in the way of an incoming magazine. :( All-in-all, it feels quite awkward compared with the above pistols.

On the plus side, the DAO trigger on this sample definitely ranks with the best of its kind.(I know, that's not saying much to many of you. :)) I feel that it may be even smoother, as well as lighter, than its older 92D sibling. The finish is equally impeccable Beretta quality, and the texture of the plastic itself is nicely done. The mag is designed FOR 10rds, and is not 'mangled' to prevent you from modifying it for more.

Has anyone had the chance to wring one out yet?

Vic,
I rented the new Beretta polymer in 40cal last week and didnt like it at all,it felt like holding the new Glock G36,the upward decock of the Beretta was so hard to do that I actually had to use my opposite hand, the slide release was extremely hard to operate as well and the bottom of the magwell was cut rather funky......accuracy was average at best,It gave me a small burn on the web of my shooting hand.....so it was not a very comfortable gun to shoot.Overall I think its nowhere near normal Beretta standards or quality.....kinda gimmicky/cheap.....but at least its priced right.....around $469.95...If youre seriously interested in getting one,I would rent one at the range then wait awhile until all the bugs are worked out......Definitely not on my "To Buy" list....oh well.....Take care....

I have a 9000S DAO and I like it so far. It is taking some getting used to. It is the first DAO pistol I've had, and it is taking a few rounds for me to become accurate with it. The pistol seems zeroed dead on, it's me that needs to practice with the DAO trigger. As far as the quality goes, I find nothing wrong with the pistol whatsoever. It is an odd-looking pistol that is ALL business. I think the finish on the metal is good looking and seems very durable. I will say that the pistols mechanisms do take a considerable amount of muscle to operate. The dealer who sold it to me could not operate the slide, and she is an accomplished shooter. It gave me sore fingers from operating the takedown lever. So far, I've had no malfunctions whatsoever. The pistol is simple to operate and has the safest action there is. You will have trouble finding a holster for it until makers have had time to develop some. I found a Shooting Systems nylon holster used that fits it perfectly, and also works well for a Glock 19 or 23. I have some more testing and training to do with the Beretta before I would carry it, but it looks like a keeper so far.
