I just can't stop

Been trying to save money for awhile and I still do save money but I have a problem with buying firearms. I used to be caliber specific but since I started reloading that has changed big time. Let me ask do I have a problem I'm buying at least 1 firearm a year sometimes up to 3 or is that just the Merica in me and when I say merica I mean america. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me. I'm just fascinated in buying firearms some due to the model or caliber I just love it. Nothing makes me happier then filling out paper work for my new firearm. I do spend under a budget on everything except firearms because in my mind putting a budget on firearms isn't fare you never know what you might run into and have to get before the next guy that sees it.

Lol. I love this kind of thread. You definitely have a major problem. Send me your excess guns and I will take care of them. Cold turkey. My wife would be glad if I only got 1 gun/year.

If you think you have a problem then you do.
If you don't think you have a problem then you're in denial and you have a REALLY BIG problem.

That kind of pop psychobabble drives me nuts.

If you're paying your bills and your kids are fed and you're boss doesn't have to worry about you dipping into the petty cash or selling company equipment on Craig's list then it really isn't any of my business how you spend your money.

The way things are today you could probably liquidate your collection and get most of what you paid back if you need it unless of course you're paying way, way too much for your guns.

Well I tell my wife there all investments she doesn't buy it but it actually is true except for the part I won't sell

There is another part of the equation that is missed: a convenient place to shoot! If you got to drive miles to a range, wait in lines for time for a lane, then, you'll lose interest.

This happened to me, when my wife wanted to move. Got to the point she said she was moving with me or without me. Fine, I moved. However, I didn't discover until afterwards, that the range I always shot at, that was but a few minutes away and open, was now an hour. The one I joined is not much better, at about a 45 minute drive and crowded.

What has re-ignited me was almost by accident! I bought a large, old industrial building for warehousing of products. In the center of the building is an isolated room, long enough for me to have my own private rimfire range. Perfect for keeping the spark alive enough to occasionally go to the range to shoot the centerfires, or take a longer drive to camp to just plink!

I don't see any problem here. I bought 3 so far this year and my wife bought 2. June just started still plenty of time left this month.... just sayin NOT seeing any issue here...:D

I forgot 2 when I first posted this. LOL:eek:

I'll have to explain why another barrel will show up in the mail tomorrow.

I was gonna wait a few months until I started on another.

But gosh dang those daily deals showing up in my email on payday make it hard to resist.....
Especially when you have an account with the manufacturer and the component is just clicks away

Just make sure the rent is paid, you and yours are socking it away for the future, and you've got six months of expenses put back. Then buy all you want. Do tell your spouse what stuff is worth, it's better that way.

Your habit is nothing. I've bought 3 guns in an hour at more than one show. A one gun a month law would put me in rehab.

Do go on a gun budget, and stick to it. Discriminate. Know what you can pass up and what you can't.

Keep on collecting. Get the best you can afford, and take care of it. Valuable collections are built up over decades by knowledgeable buyers spending serious amounts of money at whatever level they maintain.

I'm buying at least 1 firearm a year sometimes up to 3

That's cute.

I used to buy a dozen or more a year. I've since sold off a lot of those and have a very limited field of firearms that interest me. And, most of those I can no longer afford, so, my purchasing has slowed way down.

You do realize that even with one new gun a year, you will soon have too many to choose from.
You'll likely spend more time trying to pick one out than shooting.
Or you could just confine your buying to ones you will actually use.
You do shoot them, don't you?
Unless you're an octopod, how many can you use at one time, anyhow?

I agree with the other guys, if your issue is buying one to three guns a year and you're actually saving up money first then you don't have a problem.

I've bought 3 so far this year, I'm plotting on my fourth and I have a new Colt Commander being customized to give to my son as a congratulatory gift for busting his ass and earning his way into AFSOC. I cringe at the thought of what the rest of the year is going to bring.

Ya...1 to 3 a year....mmmmm Ha that's how I use to start jan and feb each year.:D Now I have slowed down alot in the last few years and have moved from purchasing new guns to outfitting my current guns into the setups I like. (different stocks, grips, sights, additonal mags, stuff like that.) I use to be really bad about impluse purchases, it got really bad when my LGS would let me put a gun on lay-a-way and I could take as much time as I needed to pay it off. That took me from $300-500 dollar pistols to $1000+ dollar rifles/pistols. Thats how I got my M1A :D. The best way I found to curb my spending was to wait 24hrs before I made the purchase, unless it was one that I KNEW I NEEDED!;)

Sell to buy is an option.

While I don't think one can own "too many" firearms, my personal philosophy is "If you don't use it on a regular basis, you can choose to lose it."

Over the course of the years I've owned 30 plus firearms. My normal collections usually sits at around a dozen guns.

Any time one 1) sits in the safe for a year or more and 2) I have no specific hunting application I know I'll use it for and 3) I have a hankering' for something new and fun I sell the old and buy new.

On the ups side, the value of my collections is creeping upwards as I usually buy something worth a touch more than what I sold. For example, I think I'd like to get a single action 45 colt just for the fun of it. And right now my collection does not include a semi-auto 22r long barreled handgun. In the safe is a gorgeous Henry Golden Big Boy in 45 colt. I bought it cause I thought I'd deer hunt in Indiana. That hunting never came to pass and I've moved back to IL for good. So the Golden boy can go and I should be able to just about finance the two hand guns.

It's a hobby. It's fun. Life is short and I have the fun of sharing that hobby with others especially kids and grand kids.

Live well, be safe

There's really no reason to have any more guns that will fit in the casket.
You guys are going to take them with you, aren't you?

One gun too many is 'just right'.....but it's impossible to get there.
My problem is the same as the OP. And I enjoy the problem.

It's good that you're aware of your purchasing and keeping track.

I decided I should probably cut back a bit when one time I realized that I had five guns in the ordered / shipping / waiting period queue at the same time.

One to three guns a year?

Not a problem.

Oh crap, I really need help if u have a problem. I am buying or trading a firearm every 2-3 months. :(. Just went on a splurge these past few months. Got a gp100, a LCR and a benelli super vinci. Seening how I am single, I have no one to answer too. So its all good and I can live happily with my sickness.
