Today- at a gun show. Yes, I plan to shoot .357 magnums out of it. I guess I just want to see first hand how bad the recoil is.

This is it.

I paid $561 out the door brand new. 12 damn ounces to contain .357 magnum loads!

Let's see, where did I put it? Oh, it's in my pocket.

Just to warn you, you might want to look at how you're insurance deals with carpal tunnel syndrome. :D I shoot regularly and often. I don't really enjoy warm 357's out of a 649 J frame. My mother bought the 342 Ti a few years back and it is unpleasant to shoot +P out of. You may shoot a few warm 357's but I doubt you'll enjoy it. Probably akin to holding firecrackers in your hand while they go off.

I guess that's one gun that could live up to the motto, "They're not for everybody, but then they don't try to be."

I've got one like that in silver. It's a nice piece. Don't shoot S&B 357 as it extracts hard.

Enjoy it in good health!

I just got a 360 3". I have shot it a couple of times, 38+P, and light .357 lead reloads (158 gr. SWC/4.5 gr. 231). It has all the recoil I need. It looks delicate to me, so I don't intend to abuse it, or me, with magnum loads. I have a Ruger 101 for that.
It shoots well, but due to light weight, it is more difficult to shoot consistently that a heavier gun.

Quote: I saw one today but I thought the price was far too high for the second hand market.

I think a big reason you often see these (and the 11-ounce 342s) in the second hand market is, like Tamara said elsewhere, that some sales clerk has convinced people to buy 'em new, then they put the first 5 rounds through them and they are promptly "for sale".

The going rate here on new scandiums seems to be in the $600 to $700 range. So, liketoshoot, once you get to experience the "like hitting a baseball in cold weather with a broken bat" syndrome a few times, I'd suggest you go buy some of the bigger, softer rubber grips to get the most out of your investment. (I have a 340PD that has become the beloved "always" gun.)

BTW, I saw on another forum where they are joking about guys here trying to get you to light off some of the "deer loads". If your hand still functions well enough to peck on the keyboard, let us know, will ya? :D

Edit to add: BE SURE to read part in istruction book about checking unfired bullets that "slip the crimp". Seem like I recall about 8 of 13 loads in mine did. :o

I won't be able to shoot until after New Year's day (going out of town), but when I get back -

I will shoot a few magnum loads for the experience. Probably 158 gr...

I will probably carry it loaded with .38 +P JHP.

The general consensus is that the gun is hard and unpleasant to shoot because of its lightweight...well DUH. I didn't buy it to be a range gun. :)

I have a new-to-me Smith N-frame model 27 for that. ;)

Scandium 357

I must say the photo of your new toy indicates a fine looking firearm. Best of luck but please let us know how your hand tolerates full-house 357 loads.
Herb;)
