I just bought g19 and...

I went out for a 1911 and ended up with glock 19 instead. I am a 1911 fan but this glock bug really got me this time. How do you guys like your g19? I was going to buy g23 but for my wife I ended up with g19. Is there a big differences in 9mm and .40 S&W (in regards to defensive purpose)? Well for that 1911, it would have to be next time and then T/C encore and then....
I would very much appreciate your comments.
Thank you.

I consider the Glock 19 to be a modern day classic. It is a perfect all around gun for any practical use. You picked a good one to get addicted to.

The Glock 19 is a perfect balance in terms of weight, size, capacity, and capability. I love it. IMHO, it's also the most balanced-looking Glock...not as chubby as the subcompacts, and not as long and bulky as the full-sized ones.

As for 9mm, I know the .40 crowd will disagree with me, but I think that a good load in 9mm will perform little different from a decent .40. Shot placement is more important than bullet diameter anyway, and the 9 is easier to shoot than the .40. get a good cartridge for carry, like the Speer GoldDot 124gr. +P, and you'll be all set. Many PDs carry the 17/19 with that load, and they don't seem to have any stopping power issues.

Great gun, good fun. I am a long-time SIG owner and recent Glock convert, but IMHO the Glock 19 is probably the best compact 9mm CCW pistol ever built, with the P7M8 as a possible equal.

I can't believe what I'm hearing here, but I will agree completely. My G19 is my favorite handgun and I use it for home defense (nightstand) with no fears. It's much more accurate than I am which is much more than I can say about some.

Of all the Glocks, the G19 imho is the perfect combination. Having said that, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the G36, because I have been told it feels like the G19 is every respect. I like .45, and the larger caliber glock models do not fit my hand well.

CX2,

Man, you did miss a beat do you? I rely on a P228 for defense work and had a Glock 19 that got shot very little, but was still a lot of fun. Too bad I had to sell the Glock 19, they're great pistols.

bryoon,

Don't forget to post a range report.

The G19 is just about the perfect size for a 9mm pistol. Conceals well without sacrificing barrel or grip length. With the right ammo, the 9mm hangs in there with the .40 and .45. I don't feel undergunned with any of my 9's - neither should you. Just load it up with a high quality hollow point load and carry on :D

If you can, buy 1 or 2 15rd mags for your new m19... and replace the plastic sights - my only recommendations on how to improve the G19.

Interesting comments on the better size of the 19. When I tried on Glocks, I chose the 17 because the 19's smaller grip put the finger grooves in the wrong places and was really uncomfortable. My fiance, with much smaller hands, agreed so we got the 17. Maybe I should look for the older model 19 as my next gun (IF Illinois ever gets concealed carry or I ever escape.) Did anyone here have the same problem and did the older G19 without finger grooves solve it?

FG/Rail G19's vs. checkered grip?

I've had a 19 for almost a decade now (love it) and picked up a new FG/Rail G19 to see how it felt

I have big hands & agree that the grooves are not lined up well for me.

My pinky & rt ring finger were crowded together too much

in comparison, the full size FG/Rail guns (17,22,31) feel great

CX2,

I meant to say that you don't miss a chance to praise SIG Sauers. How's your P239 DAO working out? Is it everything you expected?

I'd definitely go with Kydex for your holster with a full trigger shield, that way you still get to keep both kidneys each night when you take it off ;)

The 19 would be my choice in a Glock, also, choosing 9mm raises you above all the silly KB issues that dog the heavier calibers in the Plastic Fantastic range.

It most certainly is; in fact, in a couple months, I'm thinking about purchasing a 229 or a 226.

Sigs have just stole my heart and my wallet. For anybody that does it have one, save your cash (don't sell your guns) and buy one. You will thank me someday.

That's the problem with SIG Sauers, they're too nice to have only one.

If you want Kydex for your Glock you can do no better than www.sidearmor.net Their holsters fit Glocks like a glove, are tough, conceal well, and are very well made. Delivery time is quick and they've got excellent customer service. Can you tell I like them? Check out reviews at www.glocktalk.com

I've got 4 Glocks 17, 19, 21, 22 and yep you guessed it, the 19 gets carried off duty more than anything else. Its a really neat little pistol, best of all Glocks IMHO...7th
