I just bought an M1!

Hi all, I just got back from an auction, where I bought a NIB M1 from Miltech with all the accessories, and a few Miltech doesn't include. The receiver is marked

U.S Rifle
Cal. 30 M1
Springfield
Armory

I paid $750, maybe a bit much, but it has the best looking woodgrain I've seen on an M1. Besides, I couldn't let it go with the other guys bidding, from the looks of them they would not take proper care of such a fine weapon ;)
Any way, are there any online resources for the Garand? I'm just starting to learn it's quirks and wants, and I'm interested in upgrading it into a first class target rifle.
thanks,
Dave

Try Culver Shooting Page. They have a great M1 forum and a Lanes tips page. Lots of good info and a lot of good guys to ask questions. I have several M1's and a collector on the way from CMP. HTH

Ditto--Culver Shooting Page (CSP) at www.jouster.com I knew a fair amount before finding them. I know more now. Very good folks who really know their stuff.

Go slow, buy lots of books, keep your ears open.

I probably have more fun with the M1 than any other toy I own. (Plus it saved civilization.)

Dave - I HIGHLY recommend that in addition to the great resources already mentioned, you pick up a copy of The M1 Garand: Owners Guide by Scott Duff.

You can buy it from Fulton Armory.

To put your $750.00 into perspective, a new M1-A receiver from Springfield Armory was selling for (last I heard) around $650.00 - that for an investment cast receiver.

You bought an entire rifle, with a genuine forged receiver, for only $100.00 more.

Have fun! :D
