pix to come later.... traded in to a nice 7.5" super Blackhawk.

handles full house 44 mags better than my mountain gun.

to be fair, I got it as part of trade with intentions of trading it again..... but after shooting it I'm torn on getting rid of it or keeping it.

I have a couple of them a blue 5.5 inch 45 Colt and a stainless 5.5 inch in 44 mag.
Great guns and fun to shoot.

Congrats Jerrys. Got my 7.5" SBH back in the 70's, put thousands of rounds through her since then, mostly full on mags. She's still as tight and accurate as can be. Also makes for some nice deer medicine. Enjoy you new addition!

Congratulations! The 7.5" barrel on mine makes (even) my shooting reasonably accurate. I love the long sight radius and the nice big sights. Big SA revolvers feel so good in your hand! :)

Not to be picky, but if its not .44 Magnum, its not a Super Blackhawk.

But then, I often refer to this ex-Bisley .45 Colt as my ".45 Super Blackhawk."

Super Blackhawk 45 Colt

I have never owned a Super Blackhawk because they don't make them in 45 Colt. If they did, I believe they would sell well. I have owned a 1902-vintage Colt SAA, a Ruger Blackhawk convertible and Ruger Vaquero, all in 45 caliber. I have handled the Super Blackhawk, and they are very nice. Especially so with the round trigger-guards and fluted cylinders. I would have one if they made them in my caliber. But the Vaquero works for me.

Have never gotten comfortable with this revolver. I changed grips, tried the Pachmayrs, still doesn't feel right. I prefer my S&W Mountain Gun or even the smaller framed Ruger to this big pistol. Unless I can find some more comfortable grips, I'd consider selling this gun (and, I don't sell my guns!) - right now it's just a boat anchor.

There are some of us (who may be older) that believe the only Blackhawks worthy of the moniker 'Super' wear Dragoon grip frames, unfluted cylinders, and barrels 7-1/2" and longer...

:D

My first revolver I got in 1972 was a new BH in 357 with a 4&5/8" barrel. Later I got a 7.5" 45 Colt, and a 30 carbine model. All were early 3 screw models. All were eventually sold or traded. When the New Models came out I didn't like them. I'm too traditional and old fashioned. Recently feeling nostalgic I bagged a 3 screw 30 Carbine. Someone has carried and shot this gun a lot. Fine. That's what I plan to do with it. Wouldn't mind having a 3 screw BH in 41 Magnum but I have too many guns as it is.

You do realize the BH and SBH are the same thing, except some SBHs have a dragoon grip frame.... You aren't missing anything :) . You can always swap the grip frame on your BH for a dragoon grip frame if that turns your fancy ... and/or the 'hammer'. I am not talking about the New Vaquero (medium frame) or the Lipseys .45 Colt flattop BH (medium frame). Just the normal large frame NM BH, SBH, and original Vaquero.

As for the OP ... well, now you may be hooked. SA is where it is at... For me there was no going back (or forward as some like to think to DAs). :D
