After work I headed to my favorite watering hole for an adult beverage,,,
This is the place where my young undergrad shooting buddies work.

The young lady who I recently gifted a Heritage revolver to,,,
Came up to my seat all smiles and grins.

Seems her boyfriend took her out to the family property to do some shooting,,,
He was shooting some long barrel semi-automatic .22 pistol.

Long story short,,,
She smoked him shooting at water bottles.

But here's the best part,,,
He said the sights were a bit off on his gun,,,
So she offers him her revolver and smoked him using the semi-auto.

The gleam in her eyes as she related this to me,,,
Made all of the ammunition I fronted for our sessions well worth it.

I felt like a proud parent,,,
I was so pleased I had another Guinness Black Lager. :D

Guinness Black Lager.
Have another one for me! One year without an alcoholic beverage. :D

Nice, that's awesome that she connects it to you. I remember you posting about the watering hole and the undergrads there that you help out with some range time.

I like those kind of stories; especially shooting good with one of those guns that is "off" for someone else.:D:D So, that Guinness Black is pretty good?

I think it's a terrible story-but one that would warrant a stiff shot of bourbon, straight up, if I were the boyfriend of Miss Annie Oakley. :D

Constantine, congrats on passing the one-year mark.

Aarond, that is awesome! I love hearing stories like that. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Growing up in my house, my kids got well instructed in basic firearms use and safety. Beyond that, I never pushed them to shoot. My son was a bit more interested than my daughter, but she would sometimes plink with us.

Took daughter and her boyfriend shooting one time, plinking in a gravel pit. He was very enthusiastic, and was probably hoping to show off a bit, impress her...turned out the other way around.

Gun: S&W Highway Patrolman
range: about 20yds
target: old 2x4 standing out of a sand bank, wide side to us
ammo: .38spl 158 SWC

Results: him: couple of hits, the rest close misses Her: the same.

At his insistence, switch to .357 Mag (158gr)
Results; him: the same. She's not really that interested, but he insists she shoot the magnums.
Her: every single round hit. 6 for 6. Blew nice big chunks from the board. He was kind of dumbstruck.

I had a HUGE smile, that I (mostly) manage to keep on the inside. I did remark to him that it would probably be a good idea not to p*** her off....:D

Found out later that while she wasn't really trying "all that much" with the .38s, his repeated "you gotta try this!" with the magnum rounds made up her mind to prove a point. Which she then proceeded to do. Every single shot.

It was a truly wonderful thing to see.:D

Constantine, you get better at using the tools you need to stay sober.

Nice story Aarond. Hopefully the young lady will teach others. I'm tired of only seeing fat old men at the range;)

Hello Buzzcook

Hopefully the young lady will teach others.
I'm tired of only seeing fat old men at the range

The next time you see me at the range,,,
I expect you to walk up and say hello. ;)

I think the word is finally out that I'm not an old pervert chasing young girls.

Yesterday I took shooting another young lady who works at my watering hole,,,
Her father has been after her and her sister to get some training,,,
He says he will pay for them to get their carry permit,,,
I told her to ask for some training classes also.

She asked about me training her,,,
I admitted that I know my guns and how to shoot them,,,
But I'm really not qualified to give the instruction that she and her sister need.

My goal yesterday was simply to have her shoot a few different guns,,,
Since she had never fired a handgun or rifle in her life,,,
I took a small selection of handguns,,,
Nothing too big or bad.

She fired a Taurus 25-PLY, some J-frames, K-frames, Bersa Thunders, and my CZ-75B,,,
She didn't hit the center mass of the silhouette very often even at 15 yards,,,
But she did learn the basics of grip, stance and sight acquisition.

After lotsa .22, then .25, then .380, then .38 Special, and finally 9mm,,,
She decided that guns weren't all that scary anymore,,,
So my main goal was accomplished very well.

She seemed to like my 4" Model 34 and my 3" Model 36,,,
I almost wish I hadn't brought the 25-PLY,,,
She liked that little shooter the best.

All in all though she had a fun and informative time,,,
Now she can think about a gun with a bit of practical knowledge.
