I've been pondering this little tid-bit from our perjurer-in-chief, and there are some points that I have to agree with.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>"When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ...
Certainly at that time, something that offered a group of people such liberal expressions of freedom would have been considered "radical". Don't you think? This government is not called "The great experiment" for nothing.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it.
There is too much personal freedom when people begin to abuse it. Consider historically, that people find themselves bound by more and more laws when they act irresponsibly. Thus, the usual reacton is limiting the freedoms of the people through law.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities." U.S. President Bill Clinton, on MTV 3-22-94
This, however, will not make people safer.
There is no legislation, rule, or punishment that will create a permanent fix to the illness that our country has contracted.
There really is only one thing that I can see to pull back the tide of freedom infringement, and that begins in the home, teaching our children how to behave responsibly and respectfully.
Unfortunately, we are in a "catch-22" situation where many of us spend more time outside of the home just trying to make an income that will cover the four "I"'s: Income Tax (it does not matter how they "cut" it), interest (consumer debt due to the "buy now, pay later" attitude), Insurance (another government sanctioned extortion program), and Inflation (gracias a la Federal Reserve, which I understand is not a government agency), AND provide a means of paying the day-to-day expenses.
Is it any wonder that we have many of the social problems that we face today.
And when many turn to the government to solve these challenges, they only feed the problem. Because, the only solution that will work, in my opinion, looks back at them when they face the mirror, every day.
Sincerely,
