I have to agree with Clinton

I've been pondering this little tid-bit from our perjurer-in-chief, and there are some points that I have to agree with.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>"When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ...
Certainly at that time, something that offered a group of people such liberal expressions of freedom would have been considered "radical". Don't you think? This government is not called "The great experiment" for nothing.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it.
There is too much personal freedom when people begin to abuse it. Consider historically, that people find themselves bound by more and more laws when they act irresponsibly. Thus, the usual reacton is limiting the freedoms of the people through law.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities." U.S. President Bill Clinton, on MTV 3-22-94
This, however, will not make people safer.

There is no legislation, rule, or punishment that will create a permanent fix to the illness that our country has contracted.

There really is only one thing that I can see to pull back the tide of freedom infringement, and that begins in the home, teaching our children how to behave responsibly and respectfully.

Unfortunately, we are in a "catch-22" situation where many of us spend more time outside of the home just trying to make an income that will cover the four "I"'s: Income Tax (it does not matter how they "cut" it), interest (consumer debt due to the "buy now, pay later" attitude), Insurance (another government sanctioned extortion program), and Inflation (gracias a la Federal Reserve, which I understand is not a government agency), AND provide a means of paying the day-to-day expenses.

Is it any wonder that we have many of the social problems that we face today.

And when many turn to the government to solve these challenges, they only feed the problem. Because, the only solution that will work, in my opinion, looks back at them when they face the mirror, every day.

Sincerely,

I agree that when people abuse their freedoms the government clamps down and makes more laws to try to fix it but it obviously is NOT working! It basically does the exact opposite, by making more laws, they are making a new class of criminal, us, the law abiding citizen! More and more law abiding citizens are "breaking laws" becoming criminals and are not even aware of it because of all these bans and new laws! And ignorance is not an excuse! Come on! Even if all I did was study law I still wouldn't be able to know all the laws of the state and nation.

I do believe it starts with "family values", but todays problems are that there are no "families" anymore. A generation or two has gone by where these children were raised by gangs or are just irresponsible, lazy, drug dealing scum and they, in turn, have children and raise them the same way, to be scum. Its a generation thing, a replication thing. Too many children born to children, and irresponsible parents that break up and don't know the first thing about raising a child. I believe it is almost irreversible. One parent just isn't enough for a child nowadays. That parent has to work for the four "I's" (which most of them don't, they kick back and get Social Security and do drugs and watch Ricky Lake shows) and that takes a lot of that persons time which means less time with the child. The new generations I am referring to are also lazy people! They do not want to work for anything, want everything given to them and they think they deserve everything by doing nothing! I don't know where they get this attitude. I am sad to say that I am part of this generation I speak of but have fortunately had a decent family life to install good values not fall into that scum, drug dealing way.

However, I know what the perfect solution to this countries problems are going to be....Its called the 2nd COMING!!!

I was thinking of that absurd Clinton quote last night when I read this:

Can our form of government, our system of justice, survive if one can be denied a freedom because he might abuse it? -- HARLON CARTER

Clinton is scum. I hate him more for what he thinks about the Constitution than for anything else. Rome didn't fall in a day, but anymore Clintons, and our WRITTEN Constitution will be worthless and that will be that.

Raven,

I never said that it was right for the government to be more restrictive. I only said that it's response was to be more restrictive.

Of all the people you know, can you put a percentage on the ones that really put action behind their words of freedom, or do the majority of them just pay lip service to the concept and then turn back to the government when it promises another "easy way out"?

We (collectively, past and present) placed ourselves in this position through inaction and ignorance. Because, in the beginning, our government really was of and by the people. Yet, somehow we grew soft, and now the roles are reversed.

I do not believe that we can point the finger at any one thing. But unless we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and get the ball rolling in the opposite direction there will be another revolution. It may not hapen in my lifetime, but it will happen, because the deep desire for freedom is an irresistable force in the hearts of true believers.

Madison,

The answer would be "No."

Any government that usurps the rights of its constituents before a violation is sowing its own seeds of destruction.

What we have today is a plethera of "pre-emptive" laws that allow, under the color of authority, the government to arrest, detain, and incarcerate you for "intent" (i.e. drug posession, a suppressor on your post-ban AR-15 or .308, carrying concealed without a permit, possesion of an SKS Sportster with detachable magazine, etc...).

I would be willing to bet that the majority of these laws were passed to play on the public's emotional tantrum that "something needs to be done!" It helps secure one's politial career and position to feed off of the public teat.

In direct opposition to this, "causal" law dictates that a punishment must follow an act of rights violation. This, I believe, is the better, but harder course to follow.

John,

Sorry, I apologize, I didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you or attacking you because I didn't (wasn't). I was giving my two cents of venting and it was NOT directed toward you. I just had to go off for a while cuz you brought up a good subject. I, like many on FLF, am tired of the politicians restricting my rights as a law abiding citizen thinking that passing gun laws (and other laws) is going to lower the crime rate, when statistically it hasn't. Criminals don't give a crap about registering their guns, or any laws for that matter, they are criminals. Their guns aren't even legal to begin with. I do also believe that there isn't just ONE thing to blame. We do have to get back to the foundation of what this country was founded on, freedom. It all began with farmers willing to stand up to an entire army with their rifles! People need to be willing to stand up to the gov't now and say something or they will keep taking our freedom away. I also believe there will be another revolution in the future. Kinda funny how we don't learn from history, huh?

It's okay, Raven1. I didn't take your rant personally! :)
