I have questions about an older Ruger M77

I have an older ruger m77 30-06 made prior to the mark IIs and Hawkeyes that has a tang safety (Top) and a red recoil pad and I'd like to know things like maximum firing ranges. Exact year it was manufactured ect. however when I visit www.ruger-firearms.com it gives me no serial number spread for my rifles specific serial number which is 770-60798. Is this specific rifle supposed to have adjustable sights? If not someone must have added them on during prior ownership. If you can help me please reply.

It's on the site (http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/PS-SNH-RI-M77A.html). Looks like 1987.

For confirmation, drop Ruger a snail mail:

Is this specific rifle supposed to have adjustable sights?

You don't note what you mean by "adjustable sights." Some Ruger models were offered with iron sights, that is, a front sight on a barrel band near the muzzle, and an "open" rear sight on the barrel in front of the receiver.

If your rifle has a rear aperture, or "peep," sight, the sight would be aftermarket. Contacting Ruger as shown above will give you the answer as to which specific model this rifle is.

I'd like to know things like maximum firing ranges.

I'm not sure what this question means. What caliber is it? Once you know the caliber, you can look up in any reloading manual the trajectories for that caliber with a selected bullet.

Congratulations on owning a very fine rifle.

Thats an easy one,

Model 77 RS = Rings & sights, 77 R =rings only, 77 S = sights only.
the letter(s) will be in the little circle.

Q. Can you open the bolt with the safety on? or do you have to put it on fire to open the bolt?

You forgot what "I" stands for....as in RSI

I didn't forget, I just didn't know the Mannlicher stocked M77 was ID with the letter "I"(International). Now, there is a small chance that I will forget it;)

Thanks for the correction.

I have one s/n range 770 - 30xxx It is the Ultra light M-77 R .257Roberts
There is no letter designation for the Ultra Light:confused:

I didn't forget

I mistyped (misspoke). You failed to mention about the "I".

The RSI holds a dear spot in my heart. She's a gal I love to take dancing.

No, you are right, there is not alpha representation of the "paddlestock".
