I have no clue, Help!

Hi,

I was out hiking around our beautiful Northern California River territory and came accross a couple of old Brass cyclinder looking objects. They are about 2.5 inches in height and about the size of a dime around. Looks like it was crimped at the top and hollow. Do you know what this could be? Then I found a old shotgun barrel and oranate looking beauty? Can you help with identification of these items, I would greatly appreciate it. Arrowheads too, but we left those behind.

Thanks so much.

They SOUND like shotgun shells, but we'd need a picture to be sure; here's a picture of some full-length brass shells, but brass or copper quickly corrodes when it's left outside, so they shouldn't be shiny like these are.

I wrote the other day, and Thanks for your reply.

I wrote the other day and asked, "if you knew what this item I found, was"? I'm enclosing a picture of the item via attachment. I went back the other day to the site I found this at and low and behold found some cool old bottles and other old items. I guess I'm going to have to invest in a metal detector now, lol.
Thanks for your help,
Margen

Could be a measuring device or maybe a preloader for a muzzleloader. I'm not sure how that would work looking at the pic but the size is about right and it's stepped like it should be to keep from going into the muzzle too far. Were the barrels muzzleloader or shell type? By all means get a good metl detector. You can find all kinds of neat stuff..............Along with a lot of junk.:D

Here's a small sample.

It looks like one of those waterproof match carriers hikers used to carry, pre-propane lighters.
