I have decided to get a Ruger SP101 with the spurless hammer for a conceal gun. Sorry Taurus, but I have just read way too many bad reviews!!! Anyways, now I need to get a holster. Any suggestions? I have never really concealed a gun before. I already have a Galco shoulder system for my GP100 so I may just get another holster to accompany that for my SP101. I have snooped around Galco's website and found some items that might work for me. Specifically:

http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterG3.asp?ProductID=771&GunID=171

I think that looks really cool, but not sure how effective it would be. I think I'd mostly carry the gun in a shoulder holster, or just simply in my jacket or pant pocket.

Anyways, your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ohhh, very sleek looking firearm. I really like the almost automotive like curves in it. Do they make any concealed hammer DA revolvers with a more modern design like the Rugers? Ruger doesnt make any concealed hammer from what I see.

Slyster,

I have a hard time believing you will be happy with carrying the SP101 in a pocket holster, especially after handling and shooting an SP101. A shoulder or kidney holster would be your best bet. Good pick on the gun. Good luck with the holster, your best bet is to try them on. Shopping by pictures works only so well and comfort is very important for CCW carry.

I recommend an IWB preferably by Mitch Rosen (not cheap). I have used shoulder holsters but never liked them much. To much mucking about getting them adjusted right and they feel uncomfortable to me. IWB can be placed where it's most comfortable, usually midway between Paunch (Ha - don't laugh some of us have this feature) and hip. I did know one extremely large dude who wore one under his belly - true! He was in the Diplomatic Protection Squad and Nobody would ever know that he was carrying. To deploy he simply lifted his gut and 'Hey Presto!'

I'm right-handed and prefer the shoulder holster system because it works best for ME.

I started thinking about this for a choice in a holster for my newly acquired CCW pistol, a Beretta Mini-Cougar 8040F.
All set to purchase a High Noon Sky High strong side belt/pancake holster, I started thinking about a CROSSDRAW.

My 'logic' is:
I'm already used to going to the left side of my body for my BIG Beretta in a shoulder holster...AND, I drive a LOT.
This crossdraw holster idea makes a lot of sense for my own personal habits, so I may have to re-think the choice and maybe even the brand of holster, no matter what everybody else says!

Think it through for YOU. Good Luck.

Thanks! I forgot one more thing. I have to say that the grips that come with those stock Ruger Revolvers aren't the most comfortable things by any means. I purchased a nice wood Hogue grip for my GP100 and it not only looks sweet but feels so nice. Why doesn't ruger provide some good grips for their off the shelf revolvers?

Anyways, I have begun looking into grips for my newly aquired SP101 and I really don't know what to get. I love wood grips, but I think that I'd like something a little more "recoil friendly" for this little cannon. Some have advised me not to get a rubber boot grip because they can make the gun hard to uncover. Thoughts??

Oh, and you guys have to remember, I am fairly new to holsters and need a little bit of translation for your abbreviations! (IWB...Huh?)

IWB - Inside the waistband. And yes, rubber grips can be a bit big. I like the original S&W wood grips on the model 10 - don't take up much space.
