I have been taken advantage of...

Let me get your opinions...

Here's the scenario:

I have used the same gun dealer here locally for several years. I have maybe only bought a firearm from someone else maybe 2 or 3 times.
I use him to receive and ship guns and also buy from his selection. I recently shipped a couple of handguns to a fellow in exchange or another gun that I wanted. Normally, most of my trades and purchases have been so close that I never would notice that they were not being shipped via Next Day Air UPS. Well, I found out that he has been shipping my guns via regular ground UPS which I thought was against not allowed! The kicker is that he is charging me $30.00 to ship these guns and I know damn well that ground UPS is only $7 or so dollars. He is also charging me $25.00 to receive the gun. I feel like he is risking MY property by not utilizing the proper method of shipping and is also soaking me in the process!

I do not like UPS and it's regulations, nor do I mind someone making a few bucks - BUT not in what I feel is a dishonest way. I hate the thought that I need to find another gun shop here locally.

Am I over-reacting?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, by my thinkin you are underreacting.

He seems a tad on the high side for the handling and if he is shipping ground and charging for air.....that is theft.

If piece is goin from FFL to FFL the plain ol post office is real cheap and legal. Priority should take bout three days and if well insured you got it covered.

Chris....
Is the $25/30 charge in addition to his charge as the FFL middleman transfer (req'd by law)?
If not, then he is a bit high but I don't think its a blatant rip. But, if this is in addition to his transfer fee, then you are being ripped

DC,

I just pay the straight up $30.00 fee for shipping the guns. I was not aware that there was an additional charge incurred for him just being the one to ship the guns other than simple shipping costs - so perhaps I am in error on that point. I still think it odd though, that he would not use the required Next Day air since he is indeed using UPS instead of the USPS. I do still pay $25.00 in addition to the $30.00 just for him to receive the pistol for me.

Thanks,

Chris

I thought UPS Next Day was required only for handguns. In fact, I am almost 100% sure of it since I work part-time at a gun shop.

If he's charging you $30 for shipping and handling as well as the "use" of his FFL, I would say that's right in line with what we do and others that I know of.

ffl to ffl can use usps to ship handguns. some ffls don't think so, but that is the case.

on a rifle, only the receiver needs an ffl. many ffls think that the sender does too.
