I guess I have finally become a contrary old SOB. It justs grates on
my last nerve when I read posts wherein posters use abbreviations
for everything like:
Remington - Remmy
Mossberg - Mossy
Smith - Smithy
Shotgun - Shotty

You get the idea. I'm through venting, going to take my meds.

What took you guys so long, I was born one.

Now what's wrong with Mossy?? Isn't that the stuff on the North side of a tree? And as to Smithy I know a lot of black smiths that like to be called Smithys and as to Remmy I believe she spells her name Remmie.

Just don't call me Jimmy, that's my sons name.
Jim

Whenever I need to use a word that is commonly shortened... or worse... a phrase turned into an acronym, I will often use both the shortened version, like SHTF, and then display it's real meaning in parenthesis (sh** hits the fan). This, just in case a newbie is reading.

You forgot Winny! I'm with you on this but then I do find myself using IMO and IMHO every now and then too:eek:

Yup, I'm right there with ya, I became a grumpy old man set in his ways many years ago.

Those young whippersnappers calling a Desert Eagle a deagle, or an Anchutz rifle an Annie grate on my nerves too, but the one that really get me is when they shorten the name of a sports area. Here in Ohio we have Jacobs Field that all these yunguns call "The Jake" or Shottenstien Arena the call "The Shot". Lazy darn kids, GET OFF OF MY LAWN!!!

I've been (rightfully, no doubt) accused of being pedantic over poor spelling and grammar over the years, but I think/hope I've mellowed a bit. However, there's just one thing I don't think I'll ever get over - when otherwise intelligent folks cannot make the incredibly elementary distinction between "brake" and "break". This drives me up and over the cliff.

"brake" and "break"

I'm surprised that's all. Grammatical offenses on the internet are a dime a dozen.
"Your" vs. "You're"
"There" vs "They're" vs "Their"
"Effect" vs "Affect"

And a few million people who don't understand the meaning of "ironic."

Well since we are venting here, alot is not a word. put the damn space in there. It's a lot not alot.
