I have a question about 9 x 18 ammo Super PP.

Yesterday evening I was shown a pistol,,,
The owner said it used "9 x 18 Super PP" ammunition.

It looked like a Makarov to me but I'm no expert,,,
I said it probably uses regular 9 X 18 Makarov ammo,,,
But he insisted that it took ammo called "9 x 18 Super PP".

So I did a bit of Googling this morning,,,
I found several references to a 9 x 18 Super PP pistol.

Here is what one said:

A word of caution to the owners of Walther PP Super pistol. The scarce 9x18mm Police/Ultra ammunition is NOT compatible with Soviet 9x18 Makarov PM ammunition. Attempts to fire 9x18 Makarov ammunition from PP Super pistol are very dangerous due to the larger diameter of 9mm Makarov bullet.

So my question is,,,
What is the ammunition actually called,,,
And where would a person go about finding some of it?

He is down to 2 mags and can't find any more.

Can you more knowledgeable people help us out?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The Walther PP Supers are excellent guns. I saw one recently, used at a local gun store. They are pretty rare, and the ammo is as well. From what I am told they are excellent shooters.

Might be best to show a picture of the individual gun.
If it looks like a Makarov, it might BE a Makarov and the owner just confused as to its caliber.

I think Sig-Sauer made some P230s in 9x18 Police and I found mention of a (probably Gamba made) Mauser in the caliber.

The chart at
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?...347e8afc2abf8&topic=49502.msg297808#msg297808
shows dimensions for the various 9mms.

The 1970s 9mm Police is not quite the same as the 1930s 9mm Ultra although the terms are very commonly used interchangeably.

Thanks Jim Watson and PSP,,,

That chart is very informative,,,
Thanks a bunch.

I'll e-mail that ammo link to my friend,,,

Ouch.
I have seen one ever Walther Ultra on an auction house listing.
It is described as having a rotating barrel lockup so it is not in the category of "maximum blowback" like the Makarov and Police.
