I have a problem...

My wife and I just did some reworking of the finances that is going to save us a significant amount of money during the coming year, to the tune of around $3500. The moment I saw that figure the first thing that crossed my mind was:

Braces for the kids: Nope.

College fund for said kids: No.

Fixing stuff on the ever growing "honey do" list: No way.

Put it in savings: Nyet.

No, the first thing that flashed through my brain..."That will buy an Ed Brown or Wilson Combat 1911." What kind of sicko am I?

"Hi, my name is Rob, and I am a 1911aholic."

I got an unexpected check for about $700 a little while ago, I did the same calculation you did and now own a really sweet S&W model 27 4".

Hey my priorities are my priorities

I couldn't justify spending that much cash on one pistol. Sure they're nice but that's a nice chunk of change. I set my limit to $1,000.00 or less on my handguns. If you want it go for it though! 1911's are addictive! lol!

What kind of sicko am I?

One who likes guns and is coming into a few extra bucks.

If and only if you don't have a real need to spend your windfall on supporting your family go ahead and but what you want. As your wife is also a shooter, I really like the idea of matching his/hers pistols.

Drop 1k on a 1911, give the wife 1K to drop on whatever and bank the balance. All will be well and in bliss in the magical mystical world of marriage:cool:

No priorities, Oh Ya yourself :D (yanking your chain), enjoy what ever new toy you buy, you should get her one too, after all she's givin the OK for your new toy. Wives you gotta love'em. ;)

I don't take money from the household money for toys. I buy and sell things that I can make a profit from as a hobby. That supports my other hobbies.

I had a very small inheritance a while ago, since it was basically "found money" I had no qualms about buying a beautiful safe to mount in the basement.

Now my toys are safe, and additionally the wife loves having a shelf for all her jewelery and such.

I have other money coming now on the sale of a property....but that's going into finishing our remodeling and getting a new central air conditioning system installed :D

Every party has a pooper,,,,

Stick it on the princapal of your house mortgage....

That's $3500 less you have to pay on for XX number of years.

Yeah - it sucks to be so damned practical all the time. Blame my wife. She's the one that trained me.....

Use common sense and some cold, hard math to see if you can and should pull it off. It's all too obvious that anyone could die or drop dead or learn they have cancer at any time, and you can't take it with you, so don't deprive yourself of too many things. Life is for the living.

As a long time fan for high end 1911s today I wouldn't buy one!!! I would choose a plastic 45acp as they are more reliable, plenty accurate and probably last many times longer round count wise. All for at least third of the price of a quality 1911.
