In this case and using your metaphor, like women you don't need both but if you can afford it, go ahead and get both!:D

200-250 years ago maple was the preferred wood for gunstocks. Walnut became the preferred wood for exactly the same reasons that plastic has become the most common stock material today. Walnut was cheaper, easier to work with and more readily available.

I imagine that if the internet had existed back then there would have been the same complaints about how they would never use a rifle with a cheap piece of walnut on it. Real rifles were stocked in maple.

I like it. My only concern is that it would be too pretty and rare to actually use. If I could afford it I'd buy one.

As long as the brunette doesn’t mind, why not?
Wouldn’t want a gun that perdy but if it were mine I would call her Marylyn and keep her safe and warm.
Man, NICE wood!
:D

I buy pretty rifles - and shoot them.

Same with my custom Harley. I ride the heck out of it every day, and look down on guys who keep their hogs parked in the living room and hardly ever ride them.

The worst fate that can befall a fine rifle is if it winds up in the hands of a collector.

Show the gun a little respect, take it out and enjoy it!

I like the pretty maple wood on that rifle. But I bet it would look better if it were stained like an old muzzleloader where they used the aqua fortis and heat that turned the wood dark with a little purple tint to it. But those cool stripes still show through.

I have an 8mm mauser 98 that my grand dad built for my dad and gave it to him in 1963. It has a light colored maple stock like that browning. Its a pretty rifle. And I do shoot it. I killed my second elk with it about 10 years ago. My dad killed a pile of white tails and mule deer with it.

I say buy it. It will just go up in value.

Ditto: PVL...I have both, nice looking rifles and a custom Harley, use them both as much as possible. Use em but dont abuse em..

8mm is very underrated. I think it's better than the .30/06 which is also underrated these days.

The local Gander Mountain has one of those Maple stocked lever 22s on the rack, I've handled it a couple of times. The engraving and fit and finish are absolutely fantastic (typical Browning), but I'm not sure about the blonde wood. It's just so different on a lever gun, it would take some getting used to for me.

But... being a typical beautiful Browning (I've loved Brownings since I got my first Browning catalog as a kid), I guess I could get used to it, lol.

It is a cool gun.

+1 - I was once able to buy a sporterized 1903 Springfield .30-06 for a song, just because it had a bright yellow fiddleback/curley Maple Fajen stock fitted.

I removed the finish & stained the blond wood into a really good-looking custom stock - which enabled me to resell it for 3 songs. . :D

That's what is so great about guns. The brunettes never complain when you put a blond or redhead in the same bedroom. Don't try that with women.

1955 Fazakerly-made "RAF Contract" ex-mummy No4 Mk2.

I unwrapped her (horrors:eek:) & fitted the Fultons mount & Nikon Monarch 2~8X32. I originaly had a fixed 4X Hensoldt, but the eye relief just didn't work on the combination, even with a short stock. Finish is hand-rubbed BLO, I think I'm up to about 35 coats currently!
Sling uses all 3 points similar to a Ching with the 2 loops.

wogpotter,

That's a beautiful lady you have there. I've always had a soft spot for the Brit rifles and that's one of the prettiest I've seen in a very long time.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy her.
