I have a 40 year old memory,,,

Back in the early 60's,,,
My parents bought me a little .22 pistol.

It was about the size of a smaller beretta .22 auto,,,
It had the shape similar to a 1911 Colt 45 auto,,,
It had a squar-ish barrel with four bores,,,
The firing pin rotated in DAO fashion,,,
I think it was .22 short only.

Mom said she lost it before my birthday,,,
I think they knew I had found it in their hiding place,,,
Anyways I only got one look at it before it was gone forever.

If memory serves me correctly the grips were made of metal,,,
It's possible the frame was made entirely of brass,,,
It was a little bit "fancy" in it's design.

Do any of you good folk have any idea of what this little thing might have been?

.

sounds like one of these:

Yep. It's got to be a Sharps Pepperbox. No other gun fits that description. They are fairly collectible too.

Could it have been a Mossberg Brownie, or maybe an imported knockoff version? The Pepperbox shape isn't anything like a 1911

Hmmm....I don't see the resemblance between the Sharps and a Colt 1911  Maybe its me

I too think its a Mossberg Brownie. Neat little guns...

Yep, I was thinking Mossberg Brownie. I just inherited one of those little buggers. They're interesting for sure. Although they definitely don't look like a 1911, everything else in the OP sounds like a Brownie.

Well, that's a new one for me - I've never seen a Mossberg Brownie. It sure resembles a small COP 357, though. I just looked it up on gunbroker - someone is trying to get $595 for one. There are some excelent pictures of the internals on this gun - interesting gunbroker ad worth looking at:

The other interesting thing is that the original advertismement describes it as a semi-automatic pistol.

That Brownie is exactly the gun,,,

That is definitely the gun I remember,,,
I had forgotten it was a top-break action.

It never ceases to amaze me about the knowledge base the Internet provides,,,
I post some vague memories from over 40 years ago and the answer appears.

Now that I see the pictures the memory is much clearer,,,
On the model my parents had the grips were metal,,,
But this is the handgun no doubt.

Thanks Gentlemen.
