I got me a new Colt today.

It's a stainless Combat Commander XS---not XSE---not the lightweight(they did have one in the case though). I knew I was looking at a good gun----I just didn't know how good until i did a search here and the 1911 forum.

My buddy kept on telling me Kimber-Kimber-Kimber and how bad Colts were. The Kimbers were nice and all----its just I couldn't seem to warm up to them----I knew I wanted the Colt from the moment I first laid eyes on it.

Now I have one of best Colts made in years and its somewhat of a collectors item. The guy at the store didn't even know he had it---it was sitting in the back room for 6 months and they just put it on display a few days ago. Good thing for me that everybody looks at the Kimbers and skips past the Colts-----suckers!!!---lol

Glad you got what you like, but you should have bought the Kimber too, expecially if it was a Series I. They may become more collectible than the Colt! :D

Welocme to the club Colt. Colts do rule, period. I have a lightweight commander XSE and in my opinion it is the ultimate carry versus power weapon. It weighs only a few more ounces than a PPK or K9. Size is not the problem (unless you wear tight clothing) when carrying, it is the weight. Bought mine at GB.com for $730, this was a deal as the locals wanted over $800. It is the most expensive gun I have ever bought, but it is worth every penny. Quality is long remembered, cost is soon forgotten.
 
You should have bought the Kimber....now your hooked as Colts are highly addictive. I have new ones and 85 year old ones and would't take a bucket of Kimbers for ANY of them. Good luck!

Us 1911 guys have to stick together to fend off the combat tupperware hoard...

No way! Not till Colt makes with the pistol! And sends me a gift certificate for a free series 70, which is the only way I'll own another Colt! 5 months? C'mon! Viva le Resistance! Bwaaaaahaaahaahaa!!!!

Ditto to what 9X19 says. To each their own. FWIW, I have 2 Kimbers and a gin-you-wine Colt Commander.


,,The Colt shoots better than either of the Kimbers. Like so many times before though, I'll have to add that the Colt passsed through Colt's custom shop for some light work and the Kimbers are box stock.
