I got a question?

I have a S&W 5906 , Well I actually have 2. One of them was jamming ever few rounds at the range today. The other one was flawless. I used the same clips in both guns. Same ammo in both.

I even had a range gun smith check it out and he couldn't see anything wrong with it. He said try hotter rounds in it.

Well I broke them both down and I noticed the gun that was jamming. Had about a 3/16 shorter spring. Could this be the problem?

Thanks in advance

that narrows it down to the gun pretty easily:)

It seems like it could very well be a worn spring take gbros advise swap em and see if it works.

Also what kind of malfunction specificaly are you having?

a case is in the barrel with a round trying to load behind it.

So let me get this straight .

Is it the fired case is still in the chamber and a round is trying to load behind it? or

The fired case is partially ejected and caught in the slide while a round is being stripped into the chamber?

yes, The range gun smith said that the rounds I used, may not have enough pressure to eject the rounds. Would a weak or shorter spring cause this also?

Falure to extract i would first try change of ammo usualy but you having and identical gun function tends to stray away from that but could still be the culprit.

It could also be the extractor doesnt have enough tension or is worn.

A light recoil spring could also possibly cause that.

Try swaping the springs (or get a new one) and ammo and if you still have a problem with that gun have the extractor looked at.

Im no gunsmith though im just speaking from experience maybe there is someone else here who could narrow it down for you.

Thanks teeroux,

The gun smith said to try different ammo also. He said the gun looked fine. He couldn't see anything wrong with it.

The only thing is, He didn't have the other gun to compair it against. That is the funny thing. The gun looks in better shape then my old faithfull. But I noticed the spring was short. well it was:rolleyes:

I will let you know. If I fixed it tommorrow.

I am thinking maybe the previous owner kept the slide open for extended periods of time. Like in a gun safe perhaps.
