On Thanksgiving I was looking for an ambi safety I told my brother in law he could have, while we were looking for it he said "you can build a 1911 with whats in this drawer", I said no, I don't have any good barrels, he reached in and pulled out a brand new DW barrel that came out of my specialist {had a smith convert that one to 400 corbon}, I said "yah I forgot about that, I have 2 of them" so I started putting the parts on the bench, barrel, slide {I have a complete Baer marked slide from my bullseye, it wasn't cut for sights and i wanted a rear handle so instead of having it cut {I had shot it about 10K times} I had baer fit a new slide with sight cuts, I have at least 10 triggers, tons of small parts and pins, and grip sets I don't think I could count, I have 3 sets of VZ's that I didn't like the color of after they arrived, hammers, sights {lots of dim night sights, lol, plus some factory adjustables}, ect...
I have everything to build an entire 1911 in that drawer, plus much more, I even have a Springfield frame that Springfield replaced for me {the trigger well was machined wrong and their fitter just machined the trigger to work in it, I found the issue when I went to change the trigger, I called them, they said to send it in and it came back with a new frame as well as the old one, so I have had it all these years, the gun would work, I just need to use that machined trigger, OR machine another one too match...
So after that took 15 minutes of separating and sorting he said "so you gonna put it together" and I swept everything back in the drawer and handed him his safety...
Thats what happens after years of buying, building, customising, the same gun gets you, a big drawer of parts and memories, but that got me to thinking, I have a TON of AR15 stuff and I got rid of my ar15's {new laws forbid them around here}, so this weekend I went through a bunch of the parts I had and put them all in lots, took pictures, labeled them and then listed it all on ebay 22 auctions!!!!
about 4 hours later I get 22 emails, "auction ended, auction ended, auction ended"!!! Because I put AR15 in the title they cancelled all the auctions!!! Hours of work gone...
So I called my buddy at a semi local shop {he is out of state but only 30 minutes away, makes sense right? You can have AR's there but not here!!! I told him the story about ebay and he said "well what do ya have", I sent him all the pictures, and he texted me back "$3000 cash or $4000 in store credit, no ammo, no consignments" So I replied "$4500 store credit, you pay transfer fees" {hes out of state so they have to take pistols here and have them transferred, by ffl in my state}... He OK'd the offer and asked me to drop it all off today before 12...
Its well worth it for him, I'll bet he makes the money back with just triggers and barrels, I have 3 brand new {some installed but all look new in packages} Geissele triggers, 2 timneys, 4 RRA 2 stage jobs, and countless other trigger parts, 2 brand new wilson barrels, 2 used wilson barrels {not 556}, 4 complete uppers, 5 brand new BCG's {nice ones not mil specs}, then so many bags of mil spec parts, I have removed for people over the years and they let me keep, stripped uppers, hand guards, ect...
I am sure I could have gotten more on ebay, but they have their rules and this is much easier for me, I have them all packed up and I am leaving after my coffee to drop it all off, and as for the store credit, I have a few thousand in there now from left over from that last time I cleaned a safe out and got rid of all my ar's, and guns I haven't touched in years... But he said he got some new shotguns in that are interesting so I will see what that means, hopefully a nice EELL grade Beretta Pigeon V 30" sporting, that would make me a nice xmass present, my buddy wants to buy my White onyx so badly, lol it may be time for an upgrade...
