I went over to Union City, TN today. I visited Dixie Gun Works. I am in the paper chase for a Webley MK IV. All original and complete. The Webleys are still turning up. This will make my fourth. I see a trend.
Wish I'd known you had that much interest in Weblys. Personally, I think they have all the eye appeal of a rusty Edsel. But my local shop had what looked to be a Mk III Service in .455 recently. It may still be there.
I collect funky things. Webleys, Enfields, H&Rs, break tops, pipes, Sherlockian items and books. I enjoy finding unmolested and uncut Webleys. The saying is right on: no more are being made.
Willie,
Did I ever tell you I have a letter from Sherlock Holmes' secretary in response to one I wrote him while I was working in England in 1974?
Got it framed on the office wall here.
She said he was unable to reply because he was taking a well-deserved rest after many years of arduous work "and no doubt tending his bees on the Sussex Downs", but she would convey my regards to him and Dr. and Mrs. Watson.
Put THAT one in your calabash & smoke it!

I visited 221B Baker Street while in London a few years ago. There is no such number and they have done a excellent job of hiding Baker Street in plain sight. I enjoyed seeing the Army revolver of Dr. Watson. It was one of the few weapons I saw while in England. I daresay the days of grabbing your revolver and going out in disguise to catch a criminal mastermind are over.
I did too. Looks like the old Abbey National has moved on since 1974/75 when I was there, they're "developing" the site, apparently.
I just wrote to the 221 B address & got my response a month or so later.
Denis (You're still a dog!)
Old films often show Holmes armed with a Colt DA 38 in 6". My opinion is that he probably had a Reichsrevolver or a Belgian S&W knock-off. A Jeffries double action 455 might even be possible. I doubt he picked up a Wilkinson model.
