I find myself w/ $1000 in my pocket ---

I think my heart is ready to add another to the family -- I'm thinking pistol -- probably a 45 but not sure which one. I do know I don't want an XD or and M&P, I want it to have a rail and replacement parts and accessories need to be readily available. My practical side tells me a Glock 21sf or the new Colt w/ rail, the frivilous side says a HK45
What say yee?
TIA

1911

If I had a grand in my pocket right now and wanted to blow it on a .45, the choice would be easy. Contact Wildalaska and ask if he has any more Colts for $699. A 1911 would be number one on my list. Great for shooting and for home defense, plenty of guys carry them too. If you were looking for something smaller to carry, I love the XD. But it sounds like you are looking for polymer and I love my XD so I'm 0-2.

Good luck.

Let me know where you are with 1000 in your pocket and no gun! Actually, I would go for the Colt too. But cherry pick. No sight unseen purchases. Either an older one in excellent condition or a new one, but I don't know enough to comment on the quality comparision of current production guns. Have not handled them. Even an older series 70 or the like, with a little finish wear but not abuse and not shot to pieces would be nice. Approach modified(non stock) guns with caution. BTW your tag, if verbatim, is one of the scariest statements ever heard by me.

Somehow I don't see the resale value of an HK USP being as substantial as say a Colt 1911. But I could be wrong...

If you're buying all your firearms (or anything else for that matter) strictly based on the resale value, you're doing it all wrong. If your buying just to make a profit off it and it's not going to get shot, sure resale value is important but it's one of the last things I look at for a shooter.

new gun

Sig 226?
Witness limited pro?
Both on the web for under $1000
If you like the HK look at the FNP45 under $800 with case, 3 mags (2x14, 1x15) blade tech mag pouch and holster.

Handle all four and buy whichever one fits your hand the best. Of the choices you gave, they're all quality handguns. I'd go for a 1911 personally, but everyone is different.

if i had 1k? id try and get a Garand. if i had to pick a pistol, i would get a 1911 that was tricked out, since you can get a springfield GI for 523.

Don't ge me wrong -- I've got a few 45's already -- a couple 1911's and a couple of polyguns. I just think it's time to add one.
As much as I like 1911s and HKs, I'm leaning mostly towards the 21sf for a couple of reasons -- most of them practical. Accessories or fairly abundant, it'll probably be totally reliable out of the box, it'll be a decent value OTD and I know the operating system.
The reason I'd like the new Colt is because it's a Colt and it would be simple to add it to the mix. But deep down I'm a traditionalist and a 1911 w/ a rail just doens't feel right. The HK45 would be cool -- it's an HK -- I'm just a sucker for all things HK
