Now what. I Bought an Imbel metric reciever and an STG 58 parts kit and plan to build the rifle. I have never even field stripped a FAL so this might be interesting. (My wife freaked when I told her that :) ) I would like any info, tips, ect anyone can give. Man I need to get this thing together and shoot it!

I will have a gunsmith check the headspace before I fire it. However I would like to know how to do it myself.

I need to get the barrel out of what is left of the old reciever , what is the best method to do this?

Can I just modify the existing full auto fire control group to meet BATF specs? Or get rid of them.

Thanks

Go to The FAL Files and read everything. Especially the parts about U.S. parts count, unless you like the potential of BATmen hassling you.

Also read Gunplumber's site and his FAL smithing notes. Send him the $10 shareware fee, it's worth it.

Email me if you get it going, and we'll go shooting at the in-laws' farm the next time I get up to E-town to visit them and Mom.

JimR gives good advice. Definately download GP's do-it-yourself manual (and pay him when you use it).

Also, you'll need a receiver wrench or rig something up to hold onto the receiver without damaging it. The barrel has flats on it that will accept a standard open end wrench.
