I Finally Own a Colt 45

I usually buy guns considering function over form, or for a specific role, however today I broke that rule and picked up a brand new Colt 1911 (Model 01991), just because I really wanted something as close to the original government issued Colt as possible without spending the cash for an original. I already own a Springfield GI 1911 in stainless steel, but there is just something about a blued 1911 with a Pony on the side that attracts me (yeah, I'm a sucker). Can't wait to take it out and put some rounds through her.

The "New Roll Mark" '91s are nice guns. Nothing wrong with the old ones, I have one of each, but the new ones look so much better.

I have the same model Springer GI (SS) as you, and also would like to get a Colt like you did.

But since a new Colt LE6920MP-B was just added to my safe, the 1911 will have to wait while my wallet recuperates.

How can you tell if the markings are roll marked
vs stamped?

Rollmarking is a form of stamping. The letters and figures are pressed into the surface, resulting in a crater effect as material is displaced by the die.
In the past, the marking was done prior to polishing and finishing, so the raised edges were removed, but modern Colts have the rollmarking done after polishing, so the raised edges around the markings remain.

Very nice. The Colts do have a charisma. I've owned several of the NRM Colt Govts., both blue and stainless. The main thing I like about the NRM Colts is that THEY WORK. I cannot say the same for several of the original Series '70 Colts purchased back in the day....ymmv

Man, that is a beautiful Colt.
I am a big fan of the 1991 series myself. I understand the attraction to the Colt Government Model as I have the same affliction.
I look forward to your range report and more photos.

I put about 100 rds through it yesterday, no problems, and boy I forgot how sweet 1911s are to shoot! Despite my screen name, the vast majority of my shooting (training and competion) is with polymer framed striker-fired guns, I hadn't fired a 1911 in at least a couple years, and so I was pleasantly surprised how accurate I was with it. Although they aren't for me in the defensive gun department, 1911s certainly do have a special unique feel to them, and this one is no different. Perhaps an IDPA match with this gun is in my future. This gun is a keeper for sure.

It blows me away while shooting mine. The basic design that's over 100 years old and still valid today. Akin to riding a Harley-Davidson. Oozing Nostalgia.
