I finally got a good deal on a gun

I've been in the market for a Rossi M92 lever action and went to a gun show today in hopes of finding one. Sure enough, a guy had a slightly used one in .357 mag, but wanted $575.00 for it. I got him down to $525.00, but it was still too much to me. I walked away, but later went back to his table to try to get the price down lower, but both he and the rifle were gone. I left the gun show and decided to go by Big 5 to see what they had. Much to my amazement, they had one in a .357 mag and one in .44 mag. I then glanced at the price and my jaw hit the floor.. It was on clearance for $404.00. Combine that with the fact that a friend gave me almost 500 rounds of .38 reloads, and I can say that life is good.

Hate this gun

I bought this exact same gun about 2 yrs ago for my wife. She took it out deer hunting 1 time. She almost shot her foot off. The safety/trigger release on this gun is very dangerous. The gun had about 20 rounds (sight it in) through it and I sold it for $300 to a local retailer (Gander Mountain offered me $178 for it ... jerks). It was in perfect shape. Gotta say this is one of the worst guns I've ever owned. I could, with some difficulty, load 38's but couldn't load more than 2 357's. This gun is VERY difficult to load (search for this on other posts, I'm not the only one that had this problem). I hope you have a better experience with yours.

Sorry about the trouble you had. I took it out and fired 65 rounds through it and it worked flawlessly. I shot 2 8-shot groups as fast as I could fire it and still be accurate, and it performed great. I chose it after reading numerous reviews and talking with people who actually owned one. It was lighter and less expensive than the Henry's I handled and the action was smoother than the Winchester I handled. My only other choice would have been a Marlin, but it is out of my price range. So far so good.

Henry Big Boy 357 mag.

I have been drooling over the big boy but have to wait awhile. My wife of 44 yrs needs a new hip gonna get done Apr. 6th. First things first!!

Rich

RichB69, the Henry looks like a very solid gun and is nice looking as well. My only complaint is it's weight and it's more than I could afford. Hope all goes well with your wife's hip replacement. Prayers sent your way.

I've had a pair of Rossi 92s (both in 45 Colt and still have one of them) and I never had any trouble.

pltx2000- "She almost shot her foot off." Tell her in the future try to keep the muzzle not aimed at her foot.

"The safety/trigger release on this gun is very dangerous." and " It was in perfect shape". (sic) These two comments seem contradictory. Was the rifle unsafe or in perfect shape? Or is the Rossi unsafe even when in perfect shape? Not my experience with them.

As for what a retail store will pay for a used gun, they offer wholesale. Sometimes a little less. They have to be able to turn it over for a profit. Calling them names won't help. I am shocked any shop would go as high as $300 for a used gun that is around $500 brand new. You did well on that deal. Usually top price is realized by selling it to a non-dealer. One sells to a dealer to make a quick deal and not worry about being murdered by someone wanting to steal your gun.

You certainly got a great deal on a nice rifle. The only caveat I would venture is to be darn sure about those reloads. But, speaking from my own experience, the only way to be certain about the safety factor in reloads is to roll them yourself. Personally, I don't shoot anybody else's reloads anymore no matter who puts them together, including factory "remanufactured" ammunition. Just my take on it.

dgludwig, you bring up a good point and I don't like shooting other's reloads or reloading for others.

Safety? We don't need no stinkin' safety on an M92. I ditched the one on my Rossi .44 in favor of the peep sight from Steve's Gunz.
