Hey Boa! Nice find! Sweet little gun there.

Have you pinned down the year of manufacture yet?
A Mod 63 no-dash had to have been made between '77 and '82.
First production S/N was M103577.

BillCA:

1)Thanks, for your nice compliments!

2)I believe that my Model 63-0, is a first year production(1977)as the serial number is M72462?

3)The nice new, Hogue grips, were already on this gun, when I purchased it(But, I'm not sure of the kind of wood that these grips are made from?)!

I have a had a M-63 for over 20 years and I'm not sure how many thousands of rounds through it. S & W made a mistake by dropping this gun but it is a very good one

Boa,

I think you need to recheck that serial number.

They started the original prototype with M99999.
First 100 Pilot guns were in the range of M101699 to M101798
First production gun was M103577
Your gun is numbered as M72462?

If your "?" isn't taking up the last digit, you're one number shy. Otherwise I'd say that yours may be a late production model, perhaps just before the -1 models arrived. Could that first digit be a one (1) instead of a seven (7)?

Figure the M63 No-Dash was produced for 5 years, they'd have to produce over 124,000 per year to get to 724620 (if done sequentially).

It's still a nice gun!

BillCA:

I looked at the M63-0 this time, and the serial number(Strangely)doesn't have any letter prefix at all? After opening the cylinder, stamped on the yoke is just s/n 72462(EXCEPT, just below this s/n is an "Upside down" B1(Whatever this means?)directly in the center of the s/n(Just below it!)?

Whenever I had first, reported the s/n as #72462, I took this s/n directly from the Sales Receipt-and, I had just "Assumed" that the letter "M" should have been typed on this receipt? What do you make of this s/n now? After opening the cylinder, the model 63 is stamped on the frame as Mod. 63!
