I finally figured out what that odd bump/bulge was in that '81 WM receiver...

So I'm a little slow. :)

I have an '81 WM receiver that has an odd bump above and towards the front of the ejection port, right about the spot where the barrel ends inside the receiver. I had several theories as to how this happened that ranged from firing out of battery to some dolt trying to pry the bolt loose with a large screwdriver/pry-bar.
Well it was none of the above.
Lo and behold after I put a vent rib barrel on the gun and mounted it, the twin beads did not align without me adjusting my mount. I tried a couple mounts with my eyes closed and it was always the same result.
Knowing of course that it could not be me (ha!), I took a real good look at the gun and noticed that (you guessed it I'm sure) that the barrel was slightly askew.
Apparently this gun was bent. Imagine if you will, laying the gun across your knee with the ejection port facing up then applying enough pressure to bend the gun at the joint where the barrel enters the receiver.
Sad news as I am fairly sure this puts it into the junk-mode or at least shoot around left corners mode.
Mystery solved. I know, like y'all cared! :p
