I don't want to get involved, I just want to sell guns

Since I've never mastered "cut and paste" :o I'll just give you the link:
[mod note: cut-n-pasted]

Today, as the putative organizer of Sacramento County's RKBA ballot initiative :uhoh: , I went and dropped informational flyers off at several gun shops in the area. The folks at The Gun Room (http://www.thegunroom.org) were interested and very helpful. The proprietor at Wild Bill's Old West Trading Co. said he'd put them in the window. I left a whole stack by the door at The River City Gun Exchange. Broadway Rod N' Reel was excited to hear about the effort, and put some right on top of the counter.

And then I stopped at Old Sacramento Armoury. I'd actually stopped in on Monday and left some information with a clerk after I'd explained the initiative. He said then he doubted the owner would help, since he doesn't get involved in political causes. Well, he was right. The owner never came out of his office. Just said "No".

No. I don't get involved in political causes. Not even one that would protect his business.

He sells guns. He sells ammo. HE IS INVOLVED, LIKE IT OR NOT!!!! The word TRAITOR comes to mind.

So as of right now I am announcing a boycott of Old Sacramento Armoury. I will not spend another penny in that shop. If you've been there before, tell them why you won't be returning. If you've never been there, tell them why you won't be coming in.

I would like to encourage everyone to, as we say in California, express your feelings  on the matter. Don't neglect the fax option, either.

San Fran just banned handgun ownership. If this guy wanted to stay away from the political, he should have opened a craft supply shop.

If you don't know about the RKBA initiative, here it is:

Looks like someone didn't bone up on the gentle art of persuasion.

Slinging terms like "traitor" is not a way to gain friends and allies, and is undoubtedly going to alienate more people than just the shortsighted shop owner.

Your idea was good but you have to understand somthing

There are so many people AGAINST guns that the last thing guns shop owners want is more bad press, and with the press today any press is bad press.
The gun shop that I worked in for over 20 years had a problem with the press.
This beautiful woman from the news came in and suggested an interview with the owner on the purfect fathers day gift. I tried to talk him out of it, tried hard but all he saw was the free advertising.
She came back with photagrapher the following day. I was there and she was so nice and wonderful and sweet and even cozzy with the owner.
The picture in the paper was with the owner holding up an AR-15 and smilling.
He looked like a gun toting fool and the article was written very anti-gun.
"Look what some people feel are purfect fathers day gifts"
My point is that gun owners in CA might be pulling the covers over there head to keep the nitwits off there back.
I agree with what you were doing but you need to ask why he refused, dont accept the no, ask him why and then respect his reasions.
If I owned a gun shop in CA I would allow your poster, but I would still be afraid of the possible back lash.

I would personally boycott them. I understand but being am ex california person who was very active all we had out there was each other. This man makes a living off us gun owners. Maybe he needs to sell cars.

A big +1.

Boycotting something everytime you don't get your way seems to be getting to be the norm on these boards, and not something I really approve of.

Dude! Like, I should smoke a blunt and just chill, right?

Gee fellas, you're right. It won't help anything to boycott him.

Especially since in a few years the legislature will criminalize his livelihood. And with a Democratic governor rubberstamping serialized firing pins laws and a 200% tax on ammo to support trauma centers...

I'll say it again: He is involved whether he likes it or not. But then, he probably has a retirement property on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, so maybe it really won't affect him.

I love that shop; I've bought three guns there. I still won't be going in again.

I still think what your doing is right

"It won't help anything to boycott him"
Thats not the answer I was suggesting, I think you need to go back and face him, have him come out and answer your questions, you purchased 3 guns from him and he needs to answer your question, I was only suggesting why he might be afraid, you need to help him past his fears, its that or he is a low life and then boycotting him is the answer and tell him that you will be passing the word on what help he is providing,
Gun owners tend to get the word around very fast about things like this and it will close him down.
But first go back and demand as a customer that you want to talk to him and then state your case.
Demand to see him. If he still refuses then thank them and tell them as you leave what your plans are.
I would also tell them that you are placing the names of all the stores that are backing you on the flyers and that you are also going to place the names of the stores that would not back you in promenint letters on the flyers also.
What your doing is a good thing, I would make it worth the owners time to help instead of just boycotting his store.
Your right HE is is involved, but you have to make him WANT to be involved
