I don't want to be a Black man anymore.

Interesting piece.

I have often wondered where Affirmative Action applies to sports teams.

After all, it does not matter who the best person for the job is; equal representation is all that matters.

We should apply Affirmative Action to Basketball and see how far it goes. Let's see, that means that only %10 of the team can be Black. It does not matter who is the best player, we need to see some more Mexicans, Asians, "Whites" etc out there on the court!!! Equal representation!!!

I am very impressed! Thanks for sharing this piece.

I used to work at a shoe store. My manager was a black man. He and I used to talk about things. One day I felt comfortable enough knowing him to ask him about ideas like this. I asked why is it that every time I turn around I am getting Africa shoved in my face? I am supposed to say African-American. Africa outlines and such on clothes and hats and everything under the sun. I believe that folks should be proud of their heritage, but don't shove it in my face all the time. I am Cherokee, Scottish, Dutch and English. I don't walk around wearing a kilt, wooden shoes, a feather in my hair and little Union Jacks on my shirts. I am an American. You are an American. That's all that matters. He said that he agreed. This country is supposed to be a melting pot. But for some reason the so-called elite keep trying to divide us into this group or that. If we can all get past the bullcrap we will find that we are all the same really. We're just trying to make a living. Provide for our families. I would guess it is the same just about every where you go even in other countries. Your average guy in Russia or France or Spain is primarily concerned with going to work and coming home and playing with his kids. But we keep getting told that this person or that is different and has to be put into this group or that. We get told that we have to hate this group or that we are oppressing that group. I ain't oppressing anybody. Instead of folks just living they are labled and numbered and catagorized. Sorry about the ramble. This just burns my biscuits.

And what exactly does this have to do with guns ? Sounds like a really confused guy who wants to make all his white, middle aged, republican friends happy.

In the same vein, I'm tired of being white. I'm tired of being held responsible for Crusades, Inquisitions, Slavery, white man's burden, Jim Crow, bigotry, intolerance, and hatred. I'm tired of mediocre sports performance by my peoples, complacent, salt of the earth types whose biggest thrill is buying towels at Wal Mart. I'm tired of white america's lack of style, hypocritical morality, and oversensationalized media. I'm tired of having morality legislated by puritanical, provincial white beaurocrats who think having the ten commandments in school will make America's schools safer. I'm tired of white America turning everything into a cartoon theme park (McDonalds,Disney,WalMart, ect.) and letting big corporations dictate our lives as one big tacky homogenous void. I'm tired....
