I did it...

I just traded off my AR for a .308 Ruger M77 Standard with a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm scope. I don't know if it was a fit of insanity or not! lol But I do know that the Ruger will see 50 times more usage than the AR did!

That was a good move.
Now you can hit harder - farther - and more reliably.

Kudos! :D

AR's just suck... I pitty the guy that took it on trade! :D

Better to have a gun which you will use, than one which will gather dust.

BTW George, I'm waiting to see how much flak you get. :p

Well, no flack from me...other than I would have kept the AR and bought the Ruger out right. But you know....I Don't seem to get rid of any thing. Soon I think safe cleaning may be in order.

Agreed. If you don't shoot a gun, why not trade it off for something you will shoot? Unless it is a collector's item, a gun not shot is just being neglected IMHO.

Been kinda biased against ARs since a scrupulously clean one FTF'd on me during a crisis long ago in SEA.

However, the main point here is having a gun one uses vs a gun one doesn't.

Gary,

Concerning about giving Flak about the AR same old same old. Not worth the trouble to respond.

Dave,

Finally a Vietnam Vet with a bad experience with a 16.

What happened?

Also who were you with and when?

Mr. Hill, I traded the rifle to a dealer so I don't know what poor sap is gonna get it! :D Karsten, I'm in college, aka, I have no money! It was either the one or the other because of fiancial constraints, I would have kept it if I could have. The trade was an even one, I didn't pay one cent but I didn't get one back either. I shot the Ruger yesterday and I can shoot it much better than my AR. BTW, I didn't know that you could do rough range estimation with a Vari-X III until I read the manual, whoda thunk it!?

Dan

Get guns you take to the range or use regularly. For me, that's a
truckload of semi-auto guns, but I also keep a few bolt actions around
for hunting (one 'sniperized' K31), one .22 lr for small game) and
target shooting around.

I'd have kept the AR, however, just to make a statement. And in lots
of states, you can hunt with it as long as you have a five-shot mag
and don't shoot elk or want to hunt bears.

Hey, if you're happy - Cool. Really. There are plenty of us AR fans out there just waiting to trade with a sucker, er, guy like you who is dissatisfied with such a fine bit of equipment such as an AR. Got any more? - I've got a Rugers M77 you can have straight across for every AR you can come up with, LOL!

Oh, how's that for flak, George? :D

Dan, please don't take my reply wrong...I just end up keeping everything for some reason. Sorta like I have 4 sks's that never leave the house and a bunch of odds and ends as well.
My range time seems to be comprized of 3 AR's and a bolt gun as well.
Good shooting

Karsten

As a more-than-satisfied AR owner, I'd still like to congratulate you on "moving up". As was mentioned, a firearm that you will use and become proficient with is infinitely more valuable than a dust collector.

Dave,

A friend of mine (former SEAL) had a similar experience with a Beretta 92 while in a place where he "wasn't". It blew up in his hands while he was face-to-face with an unfriendly. Fortunately the bullet got out of the barrel with enough velocity to stun the guy long enough for my friend's partner to take the guy down. He's never owned or sold (he works for a gun shop) a Beretta since. Whenever someone wants one he makes one of the other guys ring up the sale.

Karsten I didn't take one bit of offense to your earlier post, I mean I don't expect everyone at TFL to know my college financial situation! :D Alas poor Yorec...that was my last AR brother! I've owned four and that was the last to go. Normally it was an AR for another AR trade but not this time! But if I clean out my closet and find a few you'll be the first guy I call!
