A friend brought me an old colt frontier six shooter to look at. Its been stuck in a drawer for the last 30 or 40 years so it is pretty dirty and not in great shape. It is marked pat. Sept 19, 1871, July 2, 72, Jan 19, 75.
Top of barrel says PT. F.A. MFG Co CT USA..... S/N 203XXX....

Not sure if this is a .45 or maybe .44???... Just wondering if anyone can help with identification and maybe year this was made.... Thanks.

Blue Book says a Colt Single Action Army 203XXX was made in early 1901.
Caliber ought to be marked on the gun. If it is actually MARKED "Frontier Six Shooter" it is a .44-40.

Be very careful cleaning that gun. In any kind of decent condition, pre-WWII SAA Colts are bringing big bucks, so a little of the wrong kind of cleaning could easily take off the dirt and a thousand bucks.
