I changed up my chokes today...

shot another 100 clays at a local venue. Longer targets, varying from 30-55 yards. Went to a LM in the lower with a Mod in the upper, with bottom barrel shooting first. Varied my shotshells; either a 7/8 #8 or a #7-1/2. The choke combo worked really well, but I was afraid initially they would be a bit too tight. They weren't, shot 72 out of 100... :D

Jim, I wish my gun had 30" or 32" barrels. One of the guys at the range let me try out his 32" Beretta Onyx. I see what shooters mean when they say swing dynamics. It was like a sword cutting through melted butter...

You might consider, after getting input from these guys (I am still learning the basics of clay shooting), adding some weight by means of lead tape. I think Big Jim somethimes advocates its use.

72is a great score. Remember, do not obsess about chokes. With there only being .005 between each US constriction name, being one tighter , or looser, will not make that much physical difference.
That being said, if it gives you any form of mental edge or increased confidence, then use whatever does that for you.

George Digweed, world sporting champ, has two P guns that he shoots. He shoots FITASC, a sporting game on steroids. His guns are both fixed choke, full and full for everything except "close" targets where he switches to modified. For him, it gives him the confidence he needs for the long shots he sees.
Put the pattern where it needs to be and most importantly, have fun

Great start.

Digweed doesn't break into a sweat thinking about he and I in a shootoff, but we do share one thing. I'd rather have more choke than needed than not enough.

I shot a solo round Saturday. The chokes were IC/LM, 7/8 oz of 8.5s, and it worked well. Presentations were mixed nicely both for distance and angle.

I hit every target on the range. I just didn't do it every time....
